Chapter 15 Get It Done as Soon as Possible

  • Liang Yimo let the silver-ringed snake slide away from the tree branch she held and laughed at Han Jianfeng’s comical expression upon turning around. Her laughter was as elegant and refined as the fragrant, blooming flowers of spring, which mesmerized Leng Yechen.
  • Han Jianfeng gave Leng Yechen a pat on his chest and let out a cough when he saw the latter spacing out. “Ahem! Fourth Master, we still have some unfinished tasks!” His words had Leng Yechen’s handsome but gentle features melt away into a stern expression.
  • “What tasks would you be doing?” Liang Yimo asked rather nonchalantly out of curiosity.
  • Leng Yechen exchanged a glance with Han Jianfeng after staring at each other for a while. Liang Yimo stared at them in their silence before suddenly recalling having seen them board a military vehicle back at Coastal City, only to meet them again in the wilderness here.
  • If that is the case… Liang Yimo seemed to have connected the dots as she stepped over to her bamboo basket to retrieve the poppy flowers and handed them to Leng Yechen. “Is this what you’re looking for?”
  • “These...” Han Jianfeng looked to Leng Yechen after seeing the flowers she held.
  • “Where’d you got these from?” Leng Yechen asked coldly with a frown.
  • “If you go over the top of this mountain, you’ll find them planted all over the terraces on the other side of it. Are you two perhaps Drug Enforcement Administration agents?” Liang Yimo asked unknowingly.
  • They were at the borders, and occurrences like that were not uncommon, so they kept their silence toward Liang Yimo’s question after exchanging glances among themselves.
  • Liang Yimo understood the situation, and thus responded with a smile as she handed all of the poppy flowers to Leng Yechen. “Take these and leave, so you wouldn’t have to go all the way over the mountain. The roads are treacherous over there as it is surrounded by mountainous terrain, and I wouldn’t be able to help you out if you got lost inside, so it would be advisable to return and come up with better options.”
  • Leng Yechen took the flowers and handed them to Han Jianfeng, who then tucked them into the backpack he carried. “We’re only here for a trip,” Han Jianfeng told her with a smile.
  • “Then let’s go down together.” Liang Yimo hadn’t bought into his lie, but neither did she expose it.
  • Leng Yechen looped Han Jianfeng’s arm around his own shoulder before deftly carrying the latter onto his back. The rays of sun pierced through, landing on him in patches and spots, as they went through the thick canopy, which made his handsome features seem gilded. Liang Yimo unconsciously glanced his way, and had to admit that she had never seen a man so rugged yet at the same time so good-looking.
  • Leng Yechen turned his head at that exact moment, and their gazes met, which snapped Liang Yimo back to her senses before averting her gaze in embarrassment. Her shy look had Leng Yechen smiled knowingly.
  • Liang Yimo only came to realize that they had parked their local off-road vehicle at the foot of the mountain after leading them back down. She had climbed over a few mountains to get to where they were, thus she hadn’t realized the presence of that run-down vehicle.
  • Leng Yechen laid Han Jianfeng onto the backseat of the car and slammed the door shut before turning to Liang Yimo. “You should leave as soon as you’re done visiting your grandparents, okay?” Leng Yechen looked at Liang Yimo lovingly.
  • Mr. Liu had told him that Su Manxue had bought a BMW before returning to visit her grandparents. They were at her hometown, so he hadn’t felt strange at all to have met her here.
  • Leng Yechen felt as if Yue Lao had connected him to Su Manxue with a red thread of fate, which led to her coming to his aid everytime he was met with a predicament; it also had his heart slowly moving closer toward her.
  • Even if Su Manxue was as hideous as how Mr. Liu had described her to be, he would be willing to take her in. She was his beloved woman, and it made sense that she would spend his money, which he would gladly provide for as long as she remained happy.
  • Liang Yimo leveled her gaze to look into his eyes while without an inkling as to what made the man before her speak such nonsense. However, he held onto her shoulders before she could raise her question. He then took a step closer to bend over, tilt his head and seal her lips with an abrupt kiss.
  • Liang Yimo was seized by a chilly sensation that wrapped itself around her neck like a silver thread. The kiss lasted only a fleeting moment before he removed himself from her lips.
  • “You told me you wanted the stars in the sky, which I had plucked down and made them into a necklace for you,” Leng Yechen whispered as he positioned himself by her ear. “Baby, I shall return to you as soon as I’m done with work. I might not be able to meet you at home, but please await for my return with patience.”
  • He was referring to Hill Mansion when he spoke of home, which he had allowed Su Manxue to settle in, as he had assumed the woman before him to be the Su Manxue who had settled into his villa. I never got the time to pay her a visit at Hill Mansion, but neither had I expected fate to have us meet here, which I am grateful for, as I could see her without going all the way there.
  • Leng Yechen planted a goodbye kiss on her forehead after having said his piece, which stunned Liang Yimo on the spot. The kiss set a flame which licked its way to her ears, and the heat he left on her forehead and lips had persisted in muddling up her brain even as he was climbing into the driver’s seat.
  • The off-road vehicle started and drove off soon after, leaving Liang Yimo to ponder over her indiscernible feelings. She wasn’t even flustered by his presence, but his kiss had set her off into panic mode, leaving her unsure of what to do.
  • That should be my second encounter with him ever since that night. The first was in front of the fruit market, when he forced a kiss on her before leaving in a hurry. It was the same this time around, wherein he left as soon as he came, all the while speaking a bunch of nonsense that confused the hell out of me.
  • Liang Yimo came back to her senses, only to realize she had an intricate aerolite necklace around her neck. The chain was made of platinum while the black heart-shaped aerolite was encased within a transparent crystal, which carried some weight.
  • She had an abrupt realization upon seeing the necklace, for she seemed to have lost the jade pendant he gifted her. She hadn’t seen it when she was packing to move, and she had no recollection whatsoever on where she could have possibly put it.
