Chapter 23

• Gina was barely asleep when she suddenly heard the alpha sit up. She listened carefully, peeping through the duvet as she watched him walk steadily to his bookshelf. He moved a golden vessel to the left, and to her surprise, a secret passage opened up in the wall, paving a way for him to walk through. Gina gasped silently, in awe of the discovery. All this time, there had been a hidden passage in his chamber. What could be concealed behind those walls? The only way to find out was to follow him.
• Making sure he was out of sight, Gina quickly stood up and quietly trailed behind him. As she entered the dark room, she hoped she wouldn't get caught. After a long walk, the alpha stopped, and a door opened, revealing a beautiful staff placed on a pillar. Gina's lips dropped in shock as she witnessed the staff emitting a radiant light. Could this be the staff she had been searching for all along? She remained hidden in the darkness, listening attentively as the alpha's voice broke the silence.
• "Step out now," the alpha commanded in his usual cold tone. Gina felt her soul momentarily leave her body, but she managed to compose herself. Was he speaking to her? There was no one else in the room with them, and how did he discover that she had been following him? She debated whether to step forward or not when the alpha spoke again.
