Chapter 9 Heart-to-Heart Between Mother and Daughter

  • Looking at the furious expression on her daughter’s little face, Grace didn’t get angry, nor did she leave the room. Instead, she sat down beside her.
  • “Who allowed you to sit here? Get out!” Molly pushed her away hard.
  • Then, Grace took the opportunity to grab Molly’s little hands. “Molly, I encountered a problem today and I heard that you’re very smart and capable. Do you think you can help me?”
  • As a child who was suddenly praised to the face, Molly was so surprised that she unknowingly stopped crying. “What problem?”
  • Thus, Grace took the opportunity to take out her phone and opened up a princess makeover game she had on her phone. “Here; take a look at this. I just can’t understand how to complete this level!”
  • She had already asked around and learned that this was the kind of game that Molly liked and excelled at. Sure enough, Molly was immediately attracted to the game and took the phone, pointing at the screen and teaching Grace. “You should do this here. For the princess’ dresses, you should choose these types of dresses for it to look good.”
  • “Is that so?” Grace pretended not to believe her as she followed Molly’s instructions and pressed on several buttons in the game. Then, she pretended to be astonished. “It really worked! Molly, you are so amazing!”
  • After being praised, Molly temporarily forgot about crying. Rather, she held the phone and excitedly discussed the game mechanics with Grace.
  • Gazing at her daughter’s confident and enraptured little face, Grace patted her head dotingly. “Molly, can I be your friend?”
  • “Why would an adult like you want to be friends with a child like me?” Molly tilted her head to the side with a doubtful expression.
  • “Because we have the same interests! I like you, Molly!”
  • “Then can you bring me to go meet my mommy?” she hesitated slightly and asked.
  • “Is your mommy Bethany Johnson?” Grace suppressed the disappointment in her heart.
  • “Yep!” Molly nodded vigorously.
  • “Do you love her very much?”
  • “She is my mommy! Of course, I love her! She is the nicest to me.” She raised her face, and her eyes shone with pride for Bethany.
  • “Is that so? Can you tell me how she treats you nicely?”
  • Pondering for a moment, she answered, “She buys me pretty clothes, lets me skip class to bring me to the amusement park, and helps me do my homework. Whatever junk food and barbeque that Daddy doesn’t allow me to eat, she will secretly buy them for me to eat. Also, some of my friends at the kindergarten don’t like me. So, she finds ways to make the director expel them. And, if a teacher doesn’t like me, she will find a way to make the director fire the teacher. My mommy is the best!”
  • As Molly carefully recounted all the ‘good things’ Bethany did for her with a proud expression, Grace got angrier and angrier as she listened.
  • Bethany is clearly trying to ruin my daughter! No wonder Christopher was so decisive about breaking off all contact between Molly and that woman!
  • “Miss Grace, don’t you agree that my mommy is amazing?” Molly was looking at her expectantly and waiting for her to answer.
  • Grace stroked her daughter’s face lightly. “I heard you really like the cartoon ‘Flower Fairy’; is that true?”
  • Molly was still young and couldn’t tell right from wrong yet. Thus, Grace could not arbitrarily criticize what Bethany had done for Molly right to her face and had to guide her daughter slowly.
  • “Yes, I really like Flower Fairy. I want to be an envoy who collects flower fairies and saves the Flower Fairy Country just like them!”
  • “Which one of them do you want to be?”
  • “Annie,” Molly answered without hesitation.
  • “What kind of person do you think Annie is?” Grace continued guiding her step by step.
  • Molly tilted her head to the side again as she mulled over it. “Cute, kind, humble, and charming; everybody likes her.”
  • “Do you want everybody to like you?”
  • She nodded her head strongly. “I do; of course, I do. But, my friends at the kindergarten don’t like me and don’t want to play with me.” When she said that, she looked a little sad.
  • “Hmmm, are you as kind and humble as Annie is?”
  • After considering it for a while, she lowered her head, blushing slightly.
  • Grace held her hand and comforted her, “Why don’t we do it this way? Once you have successfully become a humble and polite child, I’ll bring you to go and meet your mommy. How about that?”
  • “Really? Let’s do a pinky promise! You can’t lie!” Molly offered her little hand.
  • “I’m not lying to you.” Then, Grace held her daughter’s tender little hand with complicated emotions in her heart.
  • The next time we meet Bethany, I must make Molly recognize her true nature.
  • At 10.30 AM, Christopher finally couldn’t stop worrying and drove back to the villa to check on his daughter.
  • As soon as he walked into the yard, he heard Molly’s happy laughter coming from the kitchen. Thus, he walked over doubtfully.
  • At the kitchen door, he saw the newly-hired pâtissière, Grace, holding Molly’s small hands as they drew on a cake intently.
  • There was a spot of butter on Molly’s nose, but she looked very lively and cute. At that moment, she was focusing very hard on her drawing as she drew something, stroke by stroke.
  • Grace stood next to Molly, occasionally holding her small hands as she corrected her movements and strokes.
  • That warm scene gave Christopher a strange impression—it looked like they were an actual mother and daughter pair…
  • Upon closer inspection, Grace and Molly seemed to be rather similar in appearance too.
  • Could she be…
