Chapter 5 I Want You to Stay

  • Grace jumped in fright. Seeing Christopher standing behind her, she hurriedly pretended to be in a panic as she said, “Um, I-I’m a pâtissière from the Grand Star Hotel. I wanted to go to the restroom, but I got lost…”
  • Christopher sized her up and saw the uniform she was wearing. Then, he frowningly said, “There’s a guest-use restroom at the end of the first-floor hallway. Didn’t your supervisor inform you about it when you came?”
  • “I-I’m a new worker and it’s the first time I ever came to such a high-classed place. I was so nervous that I forgot.”
  • From inside the room, Molly and Bethany heard the sounds coming from outside the room. Then, they walked out together.
  • “Who are you? Why are you standing outside my room?” A childish voice rang out, and Grace felt like her heart trembled because of it.
  • Looking at her daughter in front of her, she clenched her hands into fists tightly and fought against her impulse to pull the girl into her embrace. Then, she reluctantly said, “I’m in charge of making the desserts but got lost by accident.”
  • My little Molly. It’s been seven years; I’m finally meeting you.
  • It was undoubtedly the daughter she had borne for 10 months during her pregnancy, but they couldn’t recognize each other. Grace looked into that unfamiliar gaze, and a wave of bitterness surged up in her heart.
  • “The party is about to begin, you should return! Don’t leave the kitchen without good reason,” Christopher instructed icily.
  • “Yes.” Grace lowered her head and sneaked a glance at Molly, then cautiously exited the second floor.
  • Returning to the kitchen, she controlled her emotions as her mind spun tirelessly.
  • Bethany has already led Molly astray. I must find a way to bring Molly away as soon as possible! Today, no matter what, I need to stay on at the Knight Residence.
  • As soon as the lights lit up, many luxury cars rolled up to the entrance of the Knight Residence. Then, men in suits and women in evening gowns stepped out of their cars, one by one.
  • At 7 PM, the party started.
  • Molly had changed into a pink-colored princess gown and had a diamond crown on her head—she looked like a princess right out of a fairytale.
  • She ran over to Grand Madam Knight, hugged her, and gave her a sweet kiss. “Great-grandma, I wish you good luck and longevity.” Then, she studied Grand Madam Knight carefully before saying, “Great-grandma, you’re so beautiful today! You’re prettier than me!”
  • Grand Madam Knight picked her up lovingly and pinched her on the nose. “Well, don’t you have a silver tongue!”
  • “Do you love me, Great-grandma?”
  • Of course, I do. How can I not love you? The person I love the most is you, Molly.”
  • “Then can you help me, Great-grandma?”
  • “Help you with what?” Grand Madam Knight tilted her head to the side with a smile.
  • Madam Knight couldn’t help laughing. “I’m sure you want to be allowed to eat more cakes later. Let me warn you; eating too much cake will give you cavities!”
  • Molly glared at Madam Knight. “Grandma, I’m not asking for permission to eat cakes.”
  • “So, what do you want, Molly?”
  • She glanced over at Christopher, then hugged Grand Madam Knight tightly. “Great-grandma, can you help me tell Daddy that I don’t want to go to Victory Elementary School for first grade? It’s filled with a bunch of poor kids—they are unhygienic and ill-mannered. I don’t like it.”
  • As soon as her words rolled off her tongue, the entire room fell silent.
  • The Knight Family had always been a family of scholars. Thus, they all received excellent education before. When they seized the opportunity to enter the business world back then, they, too, had struggled to crawl out of poverty. Thus, listening to the next generation’s words of disgust toward the poor… Those uneducated and ill-mannered words left a bad taste in their hearts…
  • Jake Murphy, Christopher’s best friend since childhood, quietly tapped Christopher on the arm and said, “Now I finally know why you were so adamant about sending Molly to Victory Elementary School.”
  • With a cold expression, Christopher pulled Molly out of Grand Madam Knight’s arms. “Molly, it’s your great-grandma’s birthday today. Let’s not talk about this, okay?”
  • Molly angrily shook his hand off her. “I don’t want that! I want to make it clear today! Daddy, you don’t love me! I hate you, Daddy!” After saying that, she began to cry and wail.
  • Madam Knight hugged her, feeling sorry for her. “Don’t cry, Molly. It’s your great-grandma’s birthday today, so we should celebrate it happily.”
  • Pushing Madam Knight away, Molly sat on the ground and threw a tantrum, kicking and screaming, “I don’t want to go to Victory Elementary School! I don’t want to go to Victory Elementary School!”
  • Although only close friends and family were invited to the party today, there were over 20 people in attendance. With Molly throwing a fit, it was an embarrassment to the Knight Family.
  • Thus, Madam Knight tried to drag Molly up. “Be a good girl, Molly. Why don’t we go and eat some cakes? I heard they made a lot of cakes that are your favorites!”
  • Molly shook her hand off. “I won’t eat! I won’t eat! If Daddy doesn’t agree, then I won’t eat even if I die of hunger!”
  • Sitting on the floor, Molly threw a huge tantrum and nobody could persuade her otherwise. She wanted to force Christopher to agree to her request. Due to the presence of so many friends and relatives, Christopher couldn’t do anything either.
  • Just as everybody was agonizing over what to do, Grace came out with a tray in her hands. Arranged on the tray were cakes in all sorts of shapes and designs of various animated characters, including Boonie Bears, Peppa Pig, and Flower Fairy. It all looked very vivid and realistic.
  • Walking over to Molly, she imitated Flower Fairy’s voice and said, “Little princess, this is my present to you. Do you like it?”
  • In the end, Molly was still a child. Upon seeing the cartoon-character-shaped cakes in all shapes and sizes, she was immediately attracted by them. Thus, she stopped crying and asked, “Are these cakes?”
  • “Of course! These were all made in your favorite flavors. This one is chestnut-flavored, and this one is matcha-flavored,” Grace patiently explained, pointing at the cakes on her tray.
  • “How did you make it?” Molly asked curiously.
  • Grace turned around, placed the tray on the table, and pulled Molly to her feet. Imitating the voice of Flower Fairy again, she said, “Little princess, you are dressed so beautifully today! What if you get dirty sitting on the floor?”
  • Then, Molly got up and followed after her. Running up to the table, she cheerfully exclaimed, “It’s so pretty! I want you to stay here and make cakes for me every day!”
