Chapter 9 Differential Treatment

  • Upon glimpsing the slight change in her expression, Xia Yu stood up and crouched in front of her before asking in a slightly anxious tone, “What’s wrong?”
  • Shen Beiyi cast her gaze beyond him and murmured in a very low voice, her brows furrowed, “It… It’s that time of the month. I think… my pants are stained.” Since it was her first time discussing such a topic before a man, and their relationship wasn’t that close at that, her face instantly flamed.
  • Xia Yu merely froze for a moment before he feigned a cough. Then, he leaned forward and said tenderly, “Wait for me here. I’ll be back in a moment.”
  • Without giving her a chance to react, he’d already dashed over to the entrance.
  • Gazing at his back, Shen Beiyi spaced out for a moment before lifting her hand and touching her face. Back when she was in school, many people liked her, wooed her, and treated her well because of her beauty, but she wasn’t all that moved. However, ever since she’d put on this makeup, Xia Yu was the first man who treated her so well, and he was such an outstanding man at that. She swallowed, feeling conflicted.
  • All of a sudden, the murmuring in the lobby ceased and the atmosphere grew unusually silent. Immediately after, there were sounds of footsteps of varying speeds. After several men in suits and shoes filed out, a man dressed in a brown suit appeared before the crowd. His features were profound, while his figure was tall, slender, and striking, so no matter where he went, he would be the most eye-catching person. It was Ning Shaochen!
  • When Shen Beiyi sensed his gaze sweeping over her, she hurriedly lowered her head and waited for him to come over.
  • “It’s your son’s nanny!” Liu Xu had spotted Shen Beiyi as well.
  • Ning Shaochen ordered, “Go and see why she’s here.”
  • Avoiding the crowd’s gaze, Liu Xu furtively went over to Shen Beiyi.
  • Shen Beiyi nodded at him before taking out the medicine that had been prepared beforehand from her backpack and handed it to him. “Madam Liu said that this is for Young Master Ning.” After saying that, she no longer bothered with him and lowered her head once more.
  • When Ning Shaochen walked past her, she could sense that he was looking at her, but she didn’t feel like entertaining him. After all, she still felt somewhat displeased over his derision last night. However…
  • “Why aren’t you leaving?” Surprisingly, the man spoke.
  • Shen Beiyi frowned. After some contemplation, she answered truthfully, “I… am waiting for someone.” On second thought, she glanced at the time on her cell phone and added, “Xiaoxi is sleeping anyway. I’ll go back soon.”
  • “Who gave you permission to handle private affairs during working hours?” Turning around, Ning Shaochen took a few steps forward and stood before her.
  • Upon seeing that Shen Beiyi still had her head lowered without looking at him, he was a smidge furious for being ignored, so he lifted her chin with the folder in his hand, forcing her to meet his gaze.
  • This unusual behavior of his had the crowd gasping. Who is this woman who can move Ning Shaochen, who is usually cold, into doing such a thing? Plus, she’s so ordinary!
  • When the female employee closest to Shen Beiyi saw this, she urged, “Quick, stand up. Why are you still sitting down when you see Young Master Ning?”
  • All at once, Shen Beiyi felt the blood rushing to her head. Stand up? If she could stand up, would she not be doing so now?
  • Upon seeing that she remained motionless, many people had started gossiping at the back. Who does she think Ning Shaochen is? Even high-ranking officials have to bow to him and show him some courtesy when they see him, but this woman who seemed to be a mere employee dares to put on airs before him!
  • Ning Shaochen didn’t say a word; he merely stared at her as though he wanted to see through her.
  • Shen Beiyi lifted a hand and swatted the folder away, slightly chagrined at his behavior. She was only working at his house, so why did this man have to act tyrannically as though he were the emperor? Plus, he was also overly narcissistic. If it weren’t for Ning Xiaoxi, she would never have gone to work at his house.
  • As she thought of this, she cast her gaze elsewhere, ignoring the group of people before her. The disdain and impatience that radiated silently from her had Ning Shaochen doubting if there was a problem with his eyes.
  • “Beiyi.” At this time, Xia Yu’s voice rang out.
  • Shen Beiyi had never thought that a person’s voice could sound so alluring. At this moment, she swiftly gazed in the direction where the voice had rung out, instantly all smiles. She then saw Xia Yu walking past the crowd toward her, a black and white checkered shirt draped over his left arm and a black and white paper bag in his right hand.
  • “Xia Yu!” She raised her head and looked at him. While she’d only called out his name, she surreptitiously breathed a sigh of relief.
  • “Here, put this on.” Xia Yu draped the shirt over her as though there was no one else there before leaning down close to her and murmured beside her ear, “You can stand up now, and I’ll take you to the washroom.” He spoke very softly, his heated breath caressing the tip of her ear, making the blush that’d finally faded from her face bloom once again.
  • However, as Ning Shaochen witnessed this scene, it was an utter eyesore to him.
  • Not daring to look at the expression of the crowd, Shen Beiyi then left the lobby with Xia Yu shielding her. Through it all, she didn’t spare Ning Shaochen a single glance.
  • Ning Shaochen stared in the direction she’d left, his expression livid. This woman was cold and ignorant toward me but smiled cheerfully at another man! How dare she?!
