Chapter 13 A Car Accident

  • Shen Beiyi shuddered. When she slowly turned around, the anguish and reluctance on her face were gone, a brisk smile taking its place instead. “Xiaoxi, I’ve got something to do, so I might not be able to take care of you anymore in future. You must be a good boy and listen to your father…”
  • She could no longer speak after that; her voice was already clearly choked. Hugging Ning Xiaoxi, she tilted her head upward and tried her best to suppress her tears.
  • “Did you think I’m stupid? Tell me why. Everything was still fine in the afternoon…”
  • Feeling a warm sensation on her pants at her thigh, Shen Beiyi looked down, only to see Ning Xiaoxi who was crying so violently that his shoulders were shaking. Instantly, surprise and distress filled her eyes. She’d thought that it was only her who was reluctant to part with him, but thinking of this, she was much comforted.
  • Crouching down, she knelt on the ground and pulled him into her arms. “In the future, I’ll come back and visit you when I’ve got the time, okay? Don’t cry, Xiaoxi. Please.”
  • She didn’t want to say a single bad word about Ning Shaochen before him. After all, everything between the adults had nothing to do with the child.
  • Actually, after she’d calmed down, she seemed to understand Ning Shaochen as well. Ning Xiaoxi was his son, so he naturally wouldn’t allow even the slightest threat against him. If she were in his shoes, she might have done the same thing. However, she couldn’t tell him her identity because even she herself hadn’t figured out what had happened back then.
  • “Madam Shen, don’t you have your own opinion? He asked you to leave, so you’re just going to leave?” Ning Xiaoxi dried his tears, looking upset that she’d fallen short of his expectations.
  • Shen Beiyi didn’t say anything else.
  • While Ning Xiaoxi had an incredibly high IQ, he didn’t have much social experience. Hence, it was possible that in his mind, all beings were equal.
  • “I’ll employ you, okay? I have money. I’ll pay you, so can you please not leave?” Ning Xiaoxi hugged her tightly, refusing to let her go.
  • Shen Beiyi sucked in a deep breath. This child truly warmed her heart.
  • She then simply sat on the floor and held Ning Xiaoxi in her arms. If it were possible, she wished time would stop right then and there…
  • A few hours later, Ning Xiaoxi had cried himself to sleep in her embrace. Shen Beiyi carefully scrutinized the tiny face in her arms, her eyes radiating reluctance. She gazed at him deeply, seemingly trying to imprint him on her heart and mind. Finally, she leaned over and pressed a kiss to his forehead before she carefully carried him back to his room.
  • Returning to her room, she then picked up the simple luggage that she’d packed earlier and swiftly descended the stairs to head out the door. She was afraid if she delayed her leaving, she’d be even more reluctant to leave.
  • As soon as Shen Beiyi exited the villa, she walked along the winding road that led down the hill. This was a luxurious area after all, so there was no taxi to be found, especially at this hour.
  • On the second floor of the villa, Ning Shaochen looked on as the black silhouette along the road gradually went further into the distance until it disappeared completely. Then, he retracted his gaze and went to Ning Xiaoxi’s room. However, when he swung the door open, the room was empty without any sign of Ning Xiaoxi!
  • Frowning, he quickly hurried downstairs on his long legs. Upon seeing Madam Liu in the kitchen, he asked, “Madam Liu, where’s Xiaoxi?”
  • Madam Liu hastened out when she heard his voice. “Isn’t he in his room?”
  • Ning Shaochen’s brows instantly furrowed. “There’s no one in his room. Have someone check the security cameras at once and go out to find him! Have them check if he’s in the backyard.”
  • “Yes, Young Master Shaochen.” A dozen servants acted at once.
  • Not long after, a security guard came and reported, “Young Master Shaochen, the villa’s security cameras had been hacked, so we’re unable to find out where Little Young Master went. We’ve already sent some men out to search.”
  • When Ning Shaochen heard this, the crease of his striking brows deepened. He knew without even having to think about it that the security cameras must have been hacked by that brat. Ning Xiaoxi had been planning to run away from home!
  • Upon recalling the scene whereby he’d cried and begged Shen Beiyi to stay, Ning Shaochen frown grew deeper. He must have gone to look for that woman!
  • “Zhang, prepare the car!” Ning Shaochen abruptly stood up and walked toward the garage.
  • On the road, Shen Beiyi felt dead within her as she walked toward the foot of the hill under the dim lights. Her mind was filled with Ning Xiaoxi’s every word and deed all this time, including all the little things that’d transpired during every interaction they’d shared. Thus, she didn’t notice that not too far behind her, a little figure had been following her all this while.
  • Honk!
  • An ear-piercing honk rang out, accompanied by a glare of bright light.
  • Shen Beiyi instinctively turned sideways and used her arm to block the light from the oncoming car. However, the moment she turned her body, she caught sight of Ning Xiaoxi who wasn’t far behind her! “Xiaoxi?” She was both surprised and delighted.
  • After being discovered, Ning Xiaoxi subconsciously took a step back. Stumbling on something beneath his feet, he suddenly fell to his butt on the ground, his tiny body seemingly blending into the night.
  • When Shen Beiyi spotted a car coming around the corner and heading straight toward Ning Xiaoxi, she ran full tilt toward him in horror. “Xiaoxi!” She then pushed him away, while she herself remained exposed to the danger right before the oncoming car.
  • Screech! The ear-splitting sound of the friction between car tires and the road reverberated in the night. Shen Beiyi collapsed to the ground…
  • “Madam Shen!”
