Chapter 15 Xia Yu’s Love Confession

  • Rubbing her forehead, Shen Beiyi ignored Ning Shaochen’s reprimand, asking anxiously instead, “What happened to Xiaoxi last night? Was he hurt?”
  • Ning Shaochen stared at her. Her hair was messy, covering half her face, and she looked haggard albeit appearing a tad robust. He froze for a moment as an unidentified emotion flashed in his eyes. She’d almost lost her life, and yet, she thought of Ning Xiaoxi the moment she awakened. Her love for him was so great that even Ning Shaochen was about to admit defeat despite being Ning Xiaoxi’s father.
  • Bypassing her, he disdainfully picked up the blanket on the ground and threw it onto the bed. Then, he turned to look at Shen Beiyi. “So, what do you want?”
  • Shen Beiyi gazed blankly at him in bafflement. “What do you mean?”
  • “You’ve saved him, so I should naturally reward you in some way.” He was a businessman, so he felt that every debt of gratitude could be repaid with money. After all, he didn’t want to owe this woman anything.
  • Frowning, Shen Beiyi took a deep breath before she turned toward the window and cast her gaze out the window. After some time, she turned back and looked at Ning Shaochen. He seems to not have slept well last night since exhaustion is written between his brows. As she thought about last night’s incident, she reckoned that he must have suffered quite a fright as well. As this thought came to her, a large part of her fury faded, so she calmly said, “I want to stay and take care of Xiaoxi.”
  • Ning Shaochen didn’t answer her. After sweeping his gaze over her, he turned and left, his footsteps much more relaxed now. She’s indeed different from the others. “If you’re fine, hurry up and get ready. Didn’t he ask you to accompany him to the city to buy some things?”
  • Shen Beiyi’s jaw dropped and she was overjoyed in the next instance. While his voice remained cold, it was music to her ears. She closed her eyes. When she next opened them, she suddenly felt that even the air had become much fresher.
  • It was uncertain how he’d heard of her near-accident, but when she came back with Ning Xiaoxi after buying some things at the city, she spotted Xia Yu at the gate. He was still driving his dazzling sports car.
  • Ning Xiaoxi didn’t seem to like Xia Yu, for when Shen Beiyi asked him to greet Xia Yu, he turned and walked into the house, contempt written all over his face.
  • “Why are you here? Didn’t you say that you’re going to W City to settle some things?” When it came to Xia Yu, Shen Beiyi truly didn’t know what emotion she should be exhibiting toward him.
  • Looking at her slightly limping legs, Xia Yu’s expression darkened. “Have you lost your mind? He’d kicked you out, and yet, you’re still willing to die for his son?”
  • In Shen Beiyi’s recollection, he had always been gentle, so this was her first time seeing him being so stern. However, she wasn’t afraid. Instead, she found it hilarious and burst into peals of laughter.
  • “You still dare laugh?” Xia Yu was a bit embarrassed after being laughed at, so he lifted a hand and flicked her on the forehead.
  • Shen Beiyi suppressed her laughter and lowered her head. It was apparent that she still couldn’t quite accept his frequent gestures of affection. “How did you know about last night’s incident?”
  • Xia Yu touched the tip of his nose. In this world, is there anything that can’t be bought with money? On his way back to W City on the previous day, he had someone bribe a new servant in the Ning Residence to keep an eye on Shen Beiyi’s whereabouts. Unexpectedly, something happened that night itself.
  • However, he didn’t plan on explaining all this to Shen Beiyi.
  • “Can you quit this job? If you want a job, I can help find you a more appropriate job. You’re being a nanny despite still being so young… It’ll harm your reputation in the future.”
  • “Xia Yu…” Shen Beiyi interrupted him. She knew that he was saying that out of kindness, but she bit her lip and contemplated whether to tell him the truth. After all, it wouldn’t do to have him appear frequently like this. As time went by, Ning Shaochen might even use it as an excuse again.
  • Glancing at the time, she found that there was still some time before dinner, so she asked Xia Yu to wait for a moment while she went into the Ning Residence to tell Madam Liu that she was going out for a while. Then, she took Xia Yu to a café in the center of the villa community.
  • She then told him every major detail about the past five years in a single seating. Of course, she kept the matter of her looks secret.
  • Xia Yu’s brows were creased deeply. Clearly, he found it slightly difficult to accept such a revelation that usually happened in television series.
  • On the contrary, Shen Beiyi was visibly much more relaxed. After so many years, this was her first time telling someone else about this.
  • “Are you saying that Ning Shaochen’s son is your son?” Xia Yu looked shocked and stared at her without saying a word for a long while. When he’d digested everything, he reached out his hands and grasped hers, declaring firmly, “Beiyi, I love you. I don’t care if you have had a child with someone else.”
  • His sudden love confession had Shen Beiyi stunned on the spot. She pursed her lips. “Xia Yu, thank you for loving me, but it’s impossible for us. Looking at you, I can guess that your family must be very affluent or aristocratic, so I don’t think your family will ever accept a woman who’d had a child.”
  • After she’d finished speaking, she retracted her hand. Xia Yu’s gaze instantly dimmed. Then, he blurted, “You deliberately told me about this because you don’t have any feelings for me. Am I right?”
  • His sorrow had Shen Beiyi’s eyes inexplicably turning red and her vision blurry. Back then, she was beautiful but young, so she didn’t know what love was. While her classmates pursued her, she’d never taken it seriously. However, now that she’d finally reached the age at which she could date, she’d ‘lost’ her beauty.
  • She admitted that Xia Yu was indeed outstanding and tender, but… Her mother was incredibly outstanding and her father also treated her very well usually, but when difficulties came, didn’t he choose to leave anyway? With her looks now, was love… possible? Perhaps Xia Yu merely found her novel because he’d never met a lady like her. As she thought of all this, she inhaled but said nothing in response; she didn’t know how to respond to him either.
  • After Madam Liu had said something or other on the phone, she abruptly stood up. “Okay, I’ll return immediately.”
