Chapter 8
- Adonis’s POV
- I was distracted while dancing in the club, we had moved to the VIP section but I must have left my heart behind at the regular because I kept looking out through the thin curtains to try and catch a glimpse of her.
- I couldn’t help but be worried about her. I mean, she was my sister whether I liked it or not, and her reputation was as important as mine.
- Suddenly I saw Jenna pulling her out, they were leaving the club through the back door. I immediately knew that something was up.
- “Would you like me to come home with you tonight?” my attention was called back to the room when the girl I was dancing with whispered in my ears.
- I turned at her, suddenly irritated. “Excuse me,” I uttered, gently pushing her aside.
- “Hey!” the girl whined.
- “Yo, where are you going, man?” Josh yelled.
- Ignoring them, I immediately headed for the backdoor of the club, pushing past the crowd, with my heart pounding faster than I liked to admit. Something was off.
- I slipped out the back door just in time to hear Gina slur, “Whaaat are you doing?” followed by the sharp click of a phone camera starting to record and a female giggle.
- Gina was sitting on the cold pavement behind the club. Three guys surrounded her like wolves, and Jenna stood behind them, phone in hand, an evil smile on her face.
- My face turned red with anger immediately. “Let her go!” I ordered.
- They turned around and saw me, surprise etched on their ugly faces. One of the guys took to his heels immediately and Jenna's smirk faltered, she stepped back immediately, her back against the wall.
- “The hell are you doing?” I growled, stepping out of the shadows.
- “Oh look,” one of the guys drawled, “Prince charming is here to save the day.”
- Another one, bulkier, darker, turned with a sneer. “Unless you're paying me the money she promised, get lost. I’ve got a job to finish.”
- I cocked my head and chuckled. “I’ll give you a better deal,” I said coldly. “You run now, and I won't turn your face into modern art.”
- Drunk and half-slumped on the pavement, Gina raised her hand like she was in class. “Yes, please! Teach them a lesson, pretty boy.”
- That earned a low laugh from one of the guys. “Aw, look. She wants him to play hero.”
- “Thing is,” said the first guy, cracking his knuckles, “there’s two of us. And it is just you.”
- I cracked my neck, a move meant to be intimidating. “Exactly why you should be worried… Because that’s not fair.” I smiled.
- They looked confused and one muttered with a frown. “What do you mean?”
- “Two on one? I am saying that is just unfair… for you.”
- “Hahaha, you think you are funny?” one of them asked and the next moment, he swung a punch at me, probably hoping to take me unaware, but I moved like lightning.
- I ducked, slammed an elbow into the guy’s ribs, then grabbed him by the collar and drove my knee into the bastard’s stomach. The guy wheezed, folded, and hit the ground hard.
- No, I didn’t stop there, maybe the alcohol in my system, or I was just looking for someone to take out my anger on. I kicked him in the side — once, twice — enough to make sure he stayed down.
- The second guy blinked. Took one look at his friend on the ground coughing blood. And ran like a coward.
- The guy on the pavement scrambled to his feet and followed, cursing as he disappeared into the alley.
- “Come on guys, and I was only starting to enjoy it!” I yelled at their fleeing shadows.
- Jenna had already dropped the phone.
- I turned to her, chest rising with fury. “Delete it.”
- Her hands shook. “I—I didn’t—”
- “Now.”
- She picked it up, trembling, and hit delete. “It was just a joke,” she whispered.
- I snatched the phone from her and also deleted the video from the recycle bin, then I smashed it on the wall.
- “Oh my God!” she screamed.
- I stepped closer, my eyes cold as ice. “Next time you think about ‘joking’ like this, remember how close you came to getting buried with them.” I said with my voice low and threatening.
- She immediately nodded, fear visible in her eyes.
- “Now get the hell out of here!” I yelled at her.
- Without thinking about it twice, she ran.
- I let out a breath, then turned to Gina, who was clapping weakly, grinning like she just watched a Marvel fight in IMAX.
- “You…” she hiccupped, “you were so hot.”
- I rolled my eyes. “If only you were sober enough, then maybe you would have learnt your lesson.” I muttered.
- I knelt down in front of her, brushing a strand of hair from her face, before helping her up.
- She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around my neck. “My hero.”
- I muttered under his breath, “I knew from the first day you showed up, that you’re going to be the death of me.”
- Finding a stack of crates close by, I made her sit and then sat beside her. I wasn’t feeling too good, probably the alcohol finally getting to me.
- “I want to dance!” Gina whined like a baby, trying to stand back up.
- Crossing my arm around her waist, I forced her to sit back down. “Just do as I say for once in your life.” I cursed. “You know the one thing I was happy about when you showed up? It was the fact that I wouldn’t have to babysit you, but it seems I was wrong.” I blurted.
- “Hey! Don’t be mean,” she whined, making a puppy face like I had just hurt her feelings. “Say sorry.” She demanded.
- “Huh? Adonis Queen doesn’t do sorrys.” I retorted.
- “No, you say sorry right now.” She insisted, it sounded like she was about to cry.
- “Fuck! Even while drunk, you still find ways to annoy me.” I cursed.
- She wouldn’t stop her nagging, insisting I apologized to her. I gave it a quick thought, she probably wouldn’t remember any of this tomorrow, so I could as well just say it.
- “Fine! I am sorry,” I muttered.
- She smiled, I wasn’t sure I had seen her smile before, but it was breathtaking. “You see? It wasn’t that difficult.”
- “Hmm.” I mumbled.
- I took out my phone and texted the driver, asking him to bring the car around. I guess the party was over for today, I needed to get her home before she got into more trouble, because I doubt she was going to sober up anytime soon, they probably spiked her drink.
- I turned to Gina to catch her staring silently at me. “What?” I muttered.
- “You are cute,” she giggled.
- “It is probably the alcohol talking,” I replied to her.
- “I mean it, I like you Adonis, I just don’t like how you treat me, you are mean,” she babbled in intoxication.
- I paused, looking at her face. “Really?” I asked in a whisper, unsure why I was suddenly being soft with her.
- She nodded, our eyes locked. We silently stared at each other for what felt like an eternity, and then she began to bring her head closer.
- I saw it coming but I remained still, I didn’t try to stop her. My heart was racing and in a flash, our lips had met. I felt a spark of electricity surge through me.
- My eyes widened in disbelief!
- We had just kissed!
- I just kissed my stepsister!
- TBC!!
