Chapter 6 Take Your Own Life As An Apology

  • Seemingly oblivious, Larissa turned around to ascend the staircase.
  • “Hold it right there!”
  • Sienna Taviani slammed her cutlery onto the table, standing up to glare at Larissa.
  • “What's with your attitude? You have a pair of eyes - can't you see that we're here?”
  • As she spoke, Sienna's gaze was fixed on the tear in Larissa's denim jeans, her face full of disgust and disdain.
  • How could she have such a hooligan for a daughter!
  • Larissa burst into laughter right there and then.
  • “Mom, isn't it interesting what you just said? Dad told me earlier that your precious daughter is depressed and asked me to keep my distance. I've been doing exactly that, not wanting to be a nuisance. Now, you're criticizing me for not seeing you all. So, what do you suggest I should do?”
  • Upon hearing these words, Sienna's face was filled with fury.
  • “Do you have any manners at all? Is this how you respond when an elder speaks to you?”
  • Larissa chuckled and shook her head. “Manners are something taught to children for a good upbringing. I don't really have any of that. After all, I'm just an orphan, a wild child with no parents.”
  • “You!”
  • Larissa dragged a high stool over to the dining table and perched herself on it. She watched the family of three before her with a warm, smiling gaze.
  • She believed she knew her parents well.
  • Sienna suddenly speaking up now certainly meant she had something more up her sleeve.
  • Just as expected, Sienna's face stiffened as she took a deep breath to steady her emotions.
  • “Rissa, continuing to drift abroad isn't really a solution. I've consulted with your father. Why don't you stay here in our country and attend Lofbury University?”
  • Upon hearing this, Larissa remained silent.
  • Sienna's headache worsened from the frustration, causing her to raise her voice.
  • “Rissa, what do you think?”
  • Larissa chuckled, stroking her chin as she scanned the room. “So who's the bright spark that came up with this idea? I was under the impression you all didn't want me here. Why the sudden change of heart?”
  • Before Sienna even had a chance to speak, Larissa's eyes suddenly widened in a moment of realization.
  • “You guys... You're planning on going after the company shares, aren't you?”
  • Both Sienna and Philip's faces stiffened.
  • “Rissa, stop thinking nonsense. No matter what, you are a daughter of the Stenz family. How could your father and I ever harm you?”
  • Larissa's eyes gleamed slyly as she said, “All right then. How about you all publicly announce that I am the true heiress to the Stenz family, and Anais is nothing more than an adopted daughter?”
  • “Rissa, you...” Anais' eyes welled up with tears. She was on the verge of crying again.
  • Sienna's face was dark with displeasure. “Larissa, how can you be so selfish? You're always only thinking about yourself. Don't you ever consider others?”
  • Larissa rose to her feet, a smile playing on her lips. “Mom, I'll echo your words back to you. I'm okay with going to Lofbury University, but if you're thinking of making me give up my inheritance rights to the company shares, there's no way! Do you really think you can snatch away what's mine? Over my dead body!”
  • Larissa casually picked up the suitcase next to her and leisurely ascended the stairs.
  • In an instant, the faces of the other three darkened.
  • “How did I end up with such an ill-mannered child!” Sienna exclaimed resentfully.
  • At that moment, she deeply wished that Anais was her true biological daughter.
  • Why did Larissa decide to return? Why couldn't she have just died out there!
  • With tears blurring her vision, Anais confessed, “It's all my fault. Rissa turned out this way because of her disdain for me. I...”
  • “Anais, don't overthink it.” Sienna quickly took her hand and comforted, “You're our daughter. Once we figure out a way to get Larissa to sign the shares transfer agreement, we'll send her packing!”
  • “Really?” Anais asked, her face filled with emotion.
  • Sienna said, “That wild girl Larissa staying in the Stenz family would only bring embarrassment! Don't worry, your dad and I won't let you down. You're a part of the Stenz family.”
  • With her head lowered, Anais spoke in an uneasy tone. “But what if Eugene comes back... and he really likes Larissa? What do we do then?”
  • “That's impossible. You know your brother's temperament. How could he ever like someone so ill-mannered!”
  • Larissa wasn't concerned about these insignificant plans.
  • Her primary task at the moment was to track down the thief who had stolen the file for the 4/31 Bombing Incident.
  • Larissa logged into Briostein's internal network. In a chat group named “Animal Planet,” messages were popping up.
  • Black Wolf: Great news! Black Snake has logged in!
  • Larissa leisurely tapped away at the keyboard.
  • Black Mamba: Found anything?
  • Black Wolf: The DR-2 bulletproof vest hasn't been mass-produced yet. Only Atharia and Jacaster of Clusia have received a batch, and even then, the quantities are limited.
  • Black Mamba: Jacaster of Clusia?
  • Black Wolf: The Inspection Office.
  • Black Mamba: ...
  • Larissa suddenly felt a headache coming.
  • “Silver Fox: Could it be the Inspection Office who took the file? No way, right?
  • Right after, a shocked sticker was sent.”
  • Black Wolf: Black Snake, you're in deep trouble. I just tested our mentor. If you can't retrieve the file, you'll probably have to take your own life as an apology.
