Chapter 26

  • She prayed before going forward with the plan. It hadn't been two days, but the minutes were ticking away. All of her training came down to this one shot. She was cool and calm, remembering not to hold her breath and not to rush the shot. She stepped up to the line and took her stance. l
  • Even though her heart pounded through her chest, the longbow wasn't shaking. Her breathing was steady, and while she was going through each step in her mind, finally, a calming sensation came over her while keeping her eyes open. She released the shot once the target was aligned, watching the arrow fly straight and true. The bullseye was pierced, and she had done it. She pressed the timer on her watch, then rapidly started packing up. She had seconds to get the hell out of there before they found her. Back down the tunnel, she had studied the map and plotted everything down to the escape route. She had been training for this moment for days, and now it was for real. This place was going to be flooded with police real soon.
  • She made it back to the motorcycle, and with urgency, she put on the helmet and rode off. Her mind was to get to the jeep with the stolen plates, change clothes, and then drive to the docks. There she was to catch her ride on a seaplane waiting for her. Now, she had to get there in one piece without getting killed. The motorcycle roared as she sped down the dark tunnel, making sure not to hit anything or anyone in her way. Her hands were steady on the handlebars, and her focus was razor-sharp. The light at the end of the tunnel grew brighter, and she knew she was close. Just a little further, and she would make it to the exit. Passing the small village, it wasn't that far from the jeep. Her heart raced, but her mind focused on the mission. She wasn't thinking about anything but getting to point B, reaching the dilapidated building. She changed out of her, putting everything into the barrel, then lighting it on fire. Everything she had used on this mission was now going up in flames. She was dressed like some of the locals, and she blended in very well.
