- The forest was still and quiet in the all the ways that felt wrong, like it was holding its breath carefully. I could relate to the feeling. Rowan walked beside me, his presence steady, careful. He didn’t crowd me, or reach for my hand to ask questions he could tell I wasn’t ready to answer.
- I kept seeing it when I blinked, the glint of steel, the masked face followed by the sudden certainty that this was it. That maybe I was finally getting the justice that I knew was coming my way.
