Chapter 96 The Escape

• Xerxes woke up with lots of aches in various parts of his body. Just then, there was a sound– the sound of the dungeon gates opening. He looked up to find Veronica's silhouette standing there.
• “You look terrible,” Veronica said as she entered the cell. Her steps echoed against the hard stone floor. Xerxes slowly turned his head to look at her, his eyes squinting in the low light. His vision was still blurry from sleep and the pain, and so everything looked fuzzy and out of focus to him.
• “My apologies for any pain or suffering my husband has caused you,” Veronica said, a hint of pride in her voice.
