- “He can’t know?” Sophie repeated the words back slowly, eyes narrowed, arms crossed tightly over her chest. “So it’s true then?” Her voice cracked, trembling with a mix of disbelief and frustration. “Everything he said… it was all true.”
- Melanie’s lips parted slightly, but no words came out fast enough to stop the storm already brewing.
- “I can’t believe you would keep something this big from me,” Sophie continued, her tone rising. “All this time… I thought we were sisters, Melanie. But I was wrong. I’m just the unimportant assistant who should know her place, right? Stay quiet, take notes, and poke my nose out of things that don’t concern me.”
