Chapter 6

  • Karen's POV
  • The room seemed silent and empty as I opened my eyes. I rolled over to the other side hoping to find Brody but he wasn't there. Sitting up on the bed, I noticed I was naked. A gasp escaped my lips as I shivered in fear.
  • My heart beat increased rapidly as I came down from the bed. I was so confused, I wondered why Brody wasn't in the room after we had sex yesterday.
  • I was naked and I could remember him touching me and we undressed, I couldn't remember anything after that but I had a feeling that we had sex. I quickly wore my clothes and headed for the bathroom. Checking my face in the mirror, I noticed that I was a little bit dull and tired .
  • I rinsed my face and came out of the bathroom. It was so annoying that Brody was nowhere to be found, he had probably got me drunk and used me. "How could I be such a fool?" I asked myself picking up my bag from the floor.
  • I walked out of the room slamming the door behind me and climbed down the stairs, I noticed the quietness of the compound and quickly came out of the house. Frustrated, I began to walk towards my house.
  • Brody's POV
  • I walked past the security men into my office, the cleaner wasn't done yet and it got me pissed off. "Aren't you supposed to be done by now?" I asked annoyed as she turned to look at me.
  • Her legs were wobbly with fear. "I came late, Sir." She answered, raw panic in her voice.
  • I exhaled slowly and smiled. "Victoria?" I prompted softly as she stared at me. "You're fired." I added and she fell to the ground holding my legs.
  • I pushed her in annoyance and shifted back as she pleaded. My security men came inside quickly and took her out. I sat on the chair with frustration as I pulled out a drawer and took out a document.
  • My mind drifted back to Karen, I knew that it was definitely wrong for me to leave before she could wake up but I was angry with myself. I had the opportunity to actually have fun after a long time but I wasted that precious opportunity.
  • I flipped through the pages of the documents but I couldn't even concentrate on what I was doing. I plowed my fingers through my hair confused as the telephone's ring pierced the silence, I quickly grasped my phone from the table and picked the call. "Hello." I muttered trying to make my voice calm and steady.
  • "Brody?"
  • My pulse skipped hearing my name, the familiar voice reverberated through the line. "Mom?"
  • "It's me, you didn't save my number again ?" She asked, irritation rasped in her voice as I faked a laugh.
  • "How are you doing Mom?" I asked, scratching my head. I was trying hard not to be confused but her call seemed to worsen things. I was sure of the things she would say over the phone. She wanted me to get a girlfriend and I had succeeded in lying to her about getting a girlfriend.
  • "I'm not actually doing alright." She answered, I could sense the mockery in her voice. My parents were one of the richest in Dallas which automatically made me a billionaire and the owner of their wealth. I had two siblings who were already working with rich companies in Texas.
  • "What's wrong?" I asked.
  • "I need grandchildren." She answered and I faked a cough.
  • "I have a girlfriend and not a wife."
  • "A girlfriend who you haven't decided to marry,I haven't even seen her yet." She reminded me.
  • I frowned and scratched my cheeks, looking for lies to tell her. "You'll certainly see her." I said.
  • "Of course." She replied.
  • I could hear a sharp noise in the background. "Where are you now? "I asked.
  • "Here in Dallas, I'm back." She answered.
  • My heart leaped into my throat, she wanted to meet my girlfriend and I knew she would do anything to see her, she wanted me to marry from a rich family but I couldn't find a rich girl who would accept the contract of pretending to be my girlfriend. I coughed and cleared my throat. "So are you going over to my house or what?" I asked.
  • "I'm in an hotel right now, I'll come to your place by the weekend and we might even throw a party. Just make sure everywhere is neat," She answered and I heaved a sigh of relief. "I have to go now, call me later." She added and cut the call.
  • I kept the phone in my pocket and frowned. I wondered why she decided to pay me a surprise visit. It was frustrating, I just prayed she wasn't with my dad.
  • Karen's POV
  • I walked into my house, I couldn't find Emily anywhere. "Emily?" I called out as I opened all the room doors. She definitely didn't sleep in the house. Yawning, I dropped my bag on the sofa and headed to the kitchen to prepare braised rice and chicken casserole. It was Emily's favourite food, I wondered why she wasn't at home.
  • I rinsed an onion and took a knife from the kitchen shelf, I sliced the onions into small parts and as I wielded the knife making the final slice, the telephone rang, and when I jumped, the knife slipped against my index finger, slashing the skin. The sting startled me as I groaned in pain, and I jerked my hand away from the chopping board. Blood oozed from the wound, and I held my hand over the sink while I grabbed a paper towel.
  • After wrapping my finger, I picked up the caller and said hello.
  • "Hi, it's me Bill. How are you doing?" He asked.
  • "I'm fine, I injured myself a little bit because of the ringing tone." I answered truthfully.
  • He chuckled. "I actually warned you to change that tone, I received a call from the man who wanted a lady to sign the contract of becoming his girlfriend for a short period of time. He'll be coming over to my office." He said.
  • "Good for you." I replied with a ragged sigh.
  • "I want you to come after you're done cooking so you can meet him and get the contract signed." He said.
  • "Contract?" I asked and laughed. "I didn't tell you I was interested in signing a contract." I added with a frown.
  • I heard rustling sounds in the background. "You wouldn't sign the contract for one million dollars?" He asked and I almost screamed.
  • I cringed as the images of money filled my head.
  • One Million Dollars!
  • I almost screamed "I'm definitely on my way Bill, if I'm not signing that contract, no one is." I answered.
