Chapter 12 Disappointed

  • Sebastian’s Adam’s apple bobbed as his body grew hotter. “You need to brush up on your seduction skills.” He spoke in a dispassionate yet masculine voice.
  • Jocelyn put on a faint smile and moved her hands up.
  • With an inscrutable smile, Sebastian grabbed her hands and pushed her away, causing her to get to her feet.
  • “Sebastian, why did you do that? My ankle is sprained!” Upon finishing her words, she was ready to plunge into his embrace again.
  • Seeing that, Sebastian pressed one finger against her shoulder, making sure that she couldn’t lean close to him no matter how hard she tried. “Jocelyn.” He looked fixedly at her. “I’m not the prize for the war between you and your sister.”
  • So he’s seen through me. Jocelyn’s chest tightened as she felt guilty. Upon learning that the man had realized her true intention, she began flushing.
  • “Sebastian, just you wait. I’ll look for you again.” Utterly embarrassed, Jocelyn straightened up and placed her hands on her lips.
  • Watching her disappear into the colorful lights, Sebastian shook his head and smiled helplessly. Just then, the bar owner put down a plate of fruits on the table.
  • Sebastian picked up a piece of watermelon and put it into his mouth. It’s sweet… just like Jocelyn’s fragrance just now...
  • When Jocelyn reached her university the next day, she saw Joanne standing beside a rose tree.
  • “Oh, were you waiting for me?” Jocelyn approached her.
  • “You must be disappointed.” Joanne sneered at her feigned toughness. “Sebastian and I are going to get engaged next month.”
  • Jocelyn frowned upon hearing that. The scandal about Sebastian and I has been made known to everyone. How did Nadine manage to persuade the Davises to go ahead with the engagement?
  • “I see,” Jocelyn replied in a perfunctory manner and walked away.
  • All of a sudden, Joanne’s expression turned hideous as her eyes were filled with fury. “You’re just pretending to be nonchalant. Sebastian and I are going to get married. He used to be your fiancé, but I managed to snatch him from you. I’ve also made Lucas fall in love with me. Jocelyn, you’re never a match for me! You bedded Sebastian, but it turned out that he just treated it as a one night stand. I’m the one he’s going to marry! You loved Lucas, but after I told him that you kept bullying me because you were jealous of me, he trusted me completely and swore that he’d protect me.”
  • “Are you done?” Jocelyn picked her ear. “I have to leave now. There might be some dirt in my ears. I have to get someone to dig it out for me.”
  • Over the years, Joanne had always found joy in embarrassing Jocelyn. However, the latter was no longer the pushover she used to be.
  • Seeing that Jocelyn was leaving, Joanne dashed forward and took her arm. “You b*tch—”
  • Jocelyn whirled around and landed a slap on her face. “Joanne, I had wanted to slap you last night, but I couldn’t find the chance. It’s you who provoked me first today.”
  • The slap was so forceful that Joanne began seeing stars. How dare she slap me! With her face contorting, she charged forward and landed a kick on Jocelyn’s back.
  • Jocelyn was unsuspecting when she was kicked, so she crashed into an old man upon impact and fell to the ground. At that instant, the soy milk from the old man’s bottle splashed onto Joanne’s skirt and shoes.
  • “Are you blind or what?” Seeing that her skirt was soaked, she landed a kick on the old man.
  • The old man hadn’t stabilized himself when he was kicked, so he fell on his bottom and couldn’t get up.
  • “What an old fart. Do you know how expensive my skirt is? Do you have the money to repay me? Damn it!”
  • Feeling anxious, Jocelyn quickly got to her feet and tried to help the old man up. Seeing that, Joanne landed another kick on Jocelyn’s chest, causing her to feel a sharp pain in her chest.
  • “I haven’t settled the score with you! How dare you slap me!” With a hideous expression, Joanne covered half of her face with her hand. “What a b*tch!”
  • Jocelyn’s chest felt so painful that she could hardly speak. After fishing out a card from her bag, she uttered, “How could you be so ruthless to an old man? Where’s your conscience? I’ll pay for the dress on his behalf. Take the card and get lost.”
  • Just when Joanne was ready to keep scolding her, she caught a glimpse of a few onlookers. In an instant, she put on an aggrieved expression. Not wanting others to see her dirtied skirt, she took the card and left the place in a hurry.
  • After helping the old man take a seat on the bench, Jocelyn examined his legs.
  • “Miss, is your chest alright?”
  • “I’m fine.” Jocelyn raised her head. “I’m still young and strong, so I’m not afraid of any pain.” As she spoke, she showed the old man her slender arm. “However, you’ve probably been injured after falling down. I’ll send you to the hospital now.”
  • “There’s no need.” The old man flashed a benevolent smile at her. “I’m fine because I’m still strong. I’m sorry that you had to pay for the dress on my behalf. Wait here. I’ll get someone to send you the money now.”
  • Seeing that he was about to take out his phone, Jocelyn grabbed his hand. “It’s fine. Forget about the money. You fell down because my sister and I were having an argument. You probably have retired, so please keep your money. I’m still young and able to earn money.”
  • “She’s your sister? You two don’t look alike,” the old man said. “Unlike her, you’re nice to old people.”
  • “We were not born of the same mother. My mom and grandpa passed away pretty early on. When I was a young kid, my grandpa treated me well; perhaps that’s why I’ve grown up to be kind to old people. In fact, I’m a bad student who always plays truant and gets into fights.” Jocelyn raised her head and pretended to be fierce.
  • After staring at her for some time, the old man put down his phone. “Miss, thanks for helping me. I’ll get you a gift in a few days.”
  • Jocelyn didn’t take it seriously and thought that he was just being polite. Upon making sure that the old man wasn’t injured, she headed to her classroom.
  • Seeing how lively the young girl was, the old man put on a smile. It seems that she’s forgotten about me.
  • Just then, two bodyguards in blacksuits arrived at the place and panted as they spoke respectfully to the old man. “Old Mr. Davis.”
  • Simon brushed away the dust on his shirt and rose from the bench. “Tell Sebastian that I’ll have a walk around the university, so I’ll go home a little later.”
  • “Will do.”
