Chapter 10 Request

• River's POV
• “Girl, you have got all the attention tonight,” Angel said, walking in behind me as we wrapped up for the night. I couldn’t wait to get home, to peel off these clothes and wash away the feel of all those disgusting eyes from the club. Every glance seemed to cling to my skin, and I felt raw, exposed, desperate to rid myself of the memory of it.
• Nana’s stable now, at least. I had sent her nurse enough for a week’s dialysis, and the rent was set aside too. My life was finally edging towards something that looked like stability, yet I couldn’t shake this awful feeling like a stain I couldn’t scrub off. No matter how much I did for Nana, I couldn’t erase what I had become. Stripping for money wasn’t something I’d ever imagined, and the shame of it gnawed at me. It felt like a betrayal of the person I used to be.
