Chapter 4 Bring You to Heel

  • After Jean kicked her out of their home, Lara lived in her office in the hospital for several days in a row. She compiled the evidence of Eric’s extramarital affair, which included the consent form for Sandy Pearson’s surgical abortion. After readying the divorce agreement, she sent it to Eric. She was determined to get a divorce.
  • Eric called her soon afterward. “You wanna make me sign the divorce papers with just a consent form for surgery, Lara? Do you honestly think it’ll be that easy?”
  • Lara sneered when she heard Eric’s voice through the phone. “If you want witness testimony, I can ask all the colleagues who were involved that night to testify. Oh, and I’ve made a copy of our hospital’s surveillance footage, so you can watch it for reference.”
  • “You…” Eric never expected Lara to be serious about divorcing him. After a long time, he continued in a sepulchral tone, “Well, I’m fine with getting a divorce, but I’ll be away on business for the next few days. I’ll be at Liberty Hotel tonight for an hour’s rest. Come to Room 6608 with the papers so that I’ll sign them.”
  • With that, he hung up.
  • He actually agreed so readily? Anyway, I can get a divorce at last, Lara thought with a frown. Taking out the divorce papers she had prepared in advance, she got changed and went to Liberty Hotel after work.
  • In the hotel room, Lara sat on the sofa, while Eric poured her a glass of drinking water and then began reading through the divorce agreement. The document’s contents were clearly written, but he never put his pen down on it despite reading it back and forth for a long time.
  • “Just sign it if you’ve finished reading the agreement. You’ll be giving up all your property, anyway.” Lara finished the glass of water before her and put it down with a frown.
  • Back when the Collins Family’s company went bankrupt, it was Lara who took out all her money to help Eric. Eric knew very well that she had, in a sense, acquired the whole company. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have married her despite knowing about her past. “You’re such a cruel woman. We never consummated our marriage, but there’s still goodwill between us. We’ve been married for so many years, after all,” he said with a smile. Then, he turned to the last page and signed his name on it.
  • Lara took the document and glanced at it before putting it in her handbag. She then got up to leave, but before she could reach the door, her legs started to go weak, and a strange sensation spread throughout her body. She looked at the emptied drinking glass on the table, and her eyes widened at once. “What did you make me drink, Eric?” She was a doctor, so how could she not know what was going on with herself? She was filled with resentment. I was too careless. I didn’t think he would actually dope me! she thought.
  • The smile on Eric’s face turned into a chilling sneer as he looked at Lara, whose breathing became uneven. “We’ve been married for years, Lara. Even though you’re merciless to me, I don’t think I should do the same to you. It’s only right that I make up for your regret of being estranged from your husband all these years before our divorce, don’t you think?”
  • A thin layer of sweat appeared on Lara’s forehead. Her chest heaved up and down, and her cheeks flushed a peculiar shade of red.
  • Eric sneered sarcastically as he squatted down and snatched Lara’s handbag from her. After taking out the signed divorce agreement, he tore it into tiny pieces and threw them on the ground. “How could I bring you to heel if I’m not despicable? You wanna make me give up all my property? Dream on!”
  • “Eric, you *sshole!”
  • Lara grabbed at the document, only to be shoved to the ground by Eric. She was already feeling very uncomfortable. As she inched her body forward, her collar was pulled slightly apart.
  • Eric smiled as he stroked Lara’s reddened face with a lewd expression in his eyes. “What a shame that a knockout like you would be getting laid by someone else instead of me. I know you’re frigid, which was why I added a little something to your drink so you wouldn’t feel any discomfort. Not only that, but I promise you’d feel so horny you’re gonna crave for it. I picked a hunk for you from a nightclub, and the court’s gonna receive the photos of your affair tomorrow. Also, the story of how you sold yourself and gave birth to a baby five years ago will be made public, so I suppose there’s nothing for you to worry about. So, what do you think? I’d say I’ve done you a big favor, considering we’ve been husband and wife for so many years.”
  • Lara gnashed her teeth in hatred at the sight of Eric’s sinister smile. If these things came to light, the court would definitely side with Eric during their divorce hearing, which meant she might end up not getting a dime.
  • Eric glanced at Lara on the ground as if she were a piece of garbage. After shaking her off, he picked up his cell phone and walked out of the room.
  • Her face flushed, Lara pinched the most vulnerable spot on the inner side of her thigh with both hands. The pain brought her to her senses, and she hauled herself to her feet, willing herself to stagger toward the door before opening it with great difficulty. However, the drug’s effects had rendered her so weak and sensitive that she had to lean against the wall with every other step she took. She felt as though she were melting into water as her body would go limp and collapse at any second.
  • Just then, she caught sight of a tall figure. Without a second thought, she grabbed the man by the arm.
  • Damian was about to open the door when he paused to stare at the slender hand that suddenly clung to his arm. After glancing at Lara, he asked with a frown, “Why are you here?”
  • Lara didn’t expect such a coincidence as well. Just when she was about to call for help, she heard someone coming. However, she didn’t have time to give it another thought. Folding Damian in her arms, she dragged him into the room.
  • The pair’s bodies pressed against the door with a loud thud as it closed. As soon as her body came into contact with the man’s sturdy and solid body, Lara heaved a sigh of comfort. Hooking her arms around Damian’s neck, she continued pressing her body against his while twisting herself uncomfortably. Breathing warm air onto his skin, she whispered in a deep, beguiling voice, “Don’t worry. I’m not gonna do anything to you. I’m frigid, anyway.”
  • Damian knitted his brows. How could she tell me not to worry when she’s rubbing herself this hard against me? He pushed her a little, only to be dismayed when she nuzzled even closer to him, lighting the flames within him instantly as she kept rubbing her body against his. His good-looking face darkened in an instant. “I’ll send you to the hospital.” Although that was what he said, he didn’t move an inch.
  • Lara’s lips moved closer to Damian’s face without her realizing it. She replied in a hurt voice, “I can’t go there! I’m a doctor.” She would undergo selection for a professorship in the second half of the year. If the hospital learned about her acting like this, her future would be over. I can’t lose my job after losing my marriage, she thought. “I… It’s so hot…” she whispered, while her mischievous little hand impatiently reached under Damian’s clothes. She had no control over what she was doing.
  • Damian’s good-looking face was stony. His black eyes glittering under the light, he stood perfectly still while letting her feel him up and fondle every part of his body. When Lara’s hand moved from his back to his chest, he tightened his grip on her waist, squeezing her in his arms. Pursing his thin lips, he stared at the charmingly beautiful face in his arms with bright and sparkling black eyes before saying in a deep, husky voice, “Well then, you asked for this.”
