Chapter 11 I Never Impose Myself on Women

  • “That guy looks familiar somehow,” Sandy commented while gazing at the receding car with a frown. Then, she exclaimed in surprise, “Could he be Lara’s lover?”
  • One could tell from the car alone that its owner must be a big gun. Even Eric was reluctant to buy a car like that over these years. Furthermore, the guy who stood next to Lara today was Sean Watson, the top attorney in Oaksworth.
  • Eric’s body went stiff as a vicious look flashed across his eyes. He recalled how Lara had come back that day with hickeys all over her body. It can’t be more obvious. She must have slept with some guy out there, he thought with hatred. “Whoever she’s hooked up with, she’s not getting any of the property.”
  • “Don’t worry. Even with Sean’s help, she won’t be getting a single dime. Say, if I can’t bear you children anymore, will you dump me in the future?” Sandy blinked her teary eyes, sniffling with an aggrieved look that would make any man’s heart ache.
  • “Don’t worry, babe. Why would I do that to you? You’re my beloved darling, after all,” Eric replied, before lowering his head to kiss Sandy on the lips.
  • Sandy instantly blushed with shyness. She gave Eric a shove, saying, “Oh, you’re so naughty, Eric.”
  • “Isn’t that what you liked about me?” Eric glanced lewdly at Sandy’s breasts, causing her to blush again.
  • Meanwhile, Lara followed Damian back to Olmian Court and had a quick meal for dinner. Just as she was about to go upstairs, Damian grabbed her by the wrist. Startled, she turned around and looked at him with a puzzled look.
  • “Come to my room tonight after you’ve taken a shower,” Damian said without mincing his words.
  • Lara went red in the face at his words. However, her heart skipped a beat when she looked up and saw a stunned Colette.
  • Looking as white as a sheet, Colette glared bitterly at Lara as the latter walked toward her. She bit her red lip, looking terribly aggrieved.
  • Her face blushing, Lara nodded to Colette, then shook Damian’s hand off and went back to her room. After taking a shower, she saw Colette coming in with a glass of milk. “Don’t indulge in wishful thinking just because you think you’re good-looking. You’re but a plaything to Damian.”
  • It’s mean of her to say that, Lara thought with a frown. Staring at Colette, she became a tad irked. After throwing a sidelong glance at Colette, she suddenly curled her lips into a smile, saying, “You like Damian, don’t you?”
  • “What nonsense are you talking about? I don’t!” Colette rebutted agitatedly, but her face had turned red at Lara’s words.
  • Seeing how Colette looked, Lara didn’t say anything else. She walked to the door, saying, “Please show some courtesy when you enter my room in the future, Miss Burns. Shouldn’t you at least knock on the door before entering someone else’s room?”
  • Colette glared at her with a long face. “Don’t get ahead of yourself. Let’s see if you can stay around when she comes back.”
  • The furrow in Lara’s brow deepened as she watched Colette leave. After drinking the milk on the table, she carefully picked a dress and then went to Damian’s room in an overcoat.
  • The door was half closed, and no light was switched on in the room. Lara reached for the light switch on the wall, and light instantly filled the room.
  • Without doubt, the room belonged to a woman, and it had a fashionable air to it. Decorated in white and dark pink, the entire room looked particularly bright-colored and gorgeous. A luxurious king-sized bed was seen behind the pink gauze curtains, and the wall was covered with numerous pictures of the same woman, who looked enchanting and innocent as well as graceful.
  • Lara was stunned for a moment before realizing that she had gotten into the wrong room. Just as she turned around to leave, she caught sight of a black box on the bedside table.
  • For some reason, something about the black box drew her attention, and she walked toward it. The box was patterned with peonies, which seemed somewhat incompatible with the room’s furnishing. When she reached out to touch the box, she found that the box was locked.
  • “What are you doing here?”
  • A voice sounded from behind. Startled, Lara subconsciously turned around with her hands behind her back. She was tongue-tied when she saw Damian standing at the door with a chilly expression. “I, uh… Sorry, I got into the wrong room,” she said, before lowering her head and walking outside.
  • Just as she walked past Damian, she was grabbed by the wrist. She looked up in surprise, and her body froze when she caught sight of the terrifying gloom in the depths of Damian’s eyes.
  • “Don’t enter this room ever again,” Damian said while clasping her wrist.
  • Noticing the coldness in the depths of Damian’s eyes, Lara suppressed her curiosity and replied in a faint voice, “Got it.”
  • When she followed Damian out of the room, she found out that the room was across from Damian’s. So, the room just now belongs to… his wife? she thought.
  • Lara started to feel a little awkward when it occurred to her that the woman in the photos on the wall might be Damian’s wife. She knew that Damian was once married. Although she had no idea what was going on between him and his wife at present, she felt that her relationship with Damian was indescribably strange. Am I his mistress or his girlfriend? No, it seems that I’m neither of those…
