Chapter 13 Put Through Hell by That Adulterous Couple

  • “It’s no big deal. I promised you that, anyway. Besides, you’ve returned the favor.”
  • Lara was stunned for a moment before the smile on her face turned somewhat bashful. But you’ve helped me a lot, she thought.
  • Suddenly, Damian asked, “When will the court hear the case?”
  • Impatient, Lara couldn’t wait to get Eric out of her life at once without a penny to his name. “I’ve asked Mr. Watson to petition the court to hold a hearing tomorrow afternoon,” she replied. I’ll condemn Eric to hell with the evidence of his transfer of assets.
  • When Damian saw how cheerful Lara looked, his deep, black eyes couldn’t help but soften, and his lips curved up slightly. “Okay. Come back early when you’re done. We’ll be picking Carter up from the hospital in the afternoon.”
  • Lara nodded. “I’ll be as quick as I can. But if I can’t make it, you can pick him up yourself first.”
  • Damian’s gaze fell on Lara’s face. He gave her a long, meaningful stare, but he said nothing else in the end.
  • Sean had made minute preparations with meticulous attention to detail. The evidence was sufficient: All the properties under Eric’s name had been transferred to Sandy’s mother’s name, whereas the shares he owned in his and Lara’s company had gone to Sandy. The court held another hearing the day after Sean filed the petition.
  • On the day of the hearing, Lara saw Eric getting out of his car in front of the court, whereas Sandy got out after him and held his arm affectionately. How dare this adulterous couple be so lovey-dovey in broad daylight in front of the court? she thought while clenching her fists in anger.
  • Naturally, Eric saw Lara as well, and his eyes fixed upon her with fierce menace.
  • The four people looked at each other before entering the court separately.
  • As soon as the court hearing began, Sean produced evidence of Eric’s love affair with Sandy, proving the fact that Sandy had lost her baby due to her frequent rendezvous with Eric. Not only that, but Sean even produced the hospital’s medical malpractice assessment report, proving that Sandy could no longer conceive after her surgery as a result of this. He immediately petitioned the court to freeze the assets Eric had transferred to Sandy’s mother’s name to prevent another transfer of the assets.
  • The evidence Sean provided was sufficient to prove that Lara did nothing wrong during the surgical operation.
  • Lara seemed to have found solace. She didn’t expect Sean to make such a quick move, nor did she expect him to get his hands on her hospital’s investigation report on Sandy’s surgical abortion. Back when Kevin announced her suspension, she had clearly sensed that the case would be bad for her. Surprisingly, Sean had easily turned the tables on Eric and Sandy.
  • At the end of the hearing, Eric was dripping with sweat.
  • The hearing was then adjourned until three days later, when the court would give the final ruling.
  • Relief washed over Lara. As she walked out of the court, she looked at Sean gratefully. “Thank you so much for all you’ve done, Mr. Watson. By the way, how did you get your hands on our hospital’s medical malpractice assessment report?” Generally, such a report would take at least seven days to complete, and some would take even longer. Back when Lara was informed by Kevin of her suspension, she had readied herself to be suspended for at least two months. To her surprise, Sean got his hands on the report in just one night.
  • Sean smiled before he replied in a gentle voice, “You should thank Mr. Langston for that. If it wasn’t for him, I’m afraid I wouldn’t have been able to turn the tables so soon.” After all, the transfer of assets was a tiresome business. It would involve a lot of procedures since one had to find a way to prevent the money from being transferred again. Not anyone could issue a medical malpractice assessment report like the hospital did, which meant Kevin had done Damian a huge favor out of respect for the latter.
  • Lara never thought that Damian would do these things for her. As realization flickered across her mind, she turned to look at the car that was waiting on the roadside. She walked over to the car and got in. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Otherwise, I’d probably be put through hell by that adulterous couple.”
  • Damian cast a sidelong glance at her. He merely asked, “Is it done?”
  • “The court will give the ruling three days later,” Lara replied with a smile. Overjoyed, she looked at Damian gratefully. “Also, thank you for having the hospital complete the medical malpractice assessment report. I guess I’ll be able to go back to work soon,” she added before reaching out to hold Damian’s arm, her eyes glimmering with something. “Please rest assured. I’ll definitely do my best to pay you back from now on.” Her black eyes were sparkling as they reflected Damian’s tall figure.
  • Damian suddenly leaned over and bore down on her. “You can pay me back for that, but I don’t accept any form of repayment other than yourself.”
  • Lara’s eyes widened. She watched him lean closer and closer to her as his deep and unfathomable black eyes reflected her slightly nervous face. As he breathed onto her face, they suddenly came very close to each other. Her face blushing, Lara lowered her head while clutching her seat belt.
