Chapter 58 The Last Resort

  • The silence in Leo's penthouse was a new kind of torture. It wasn't the lonely quiet of a man who had always lived by himself; it was the deafening absence of a woman who had once filled every part of his life evenwithout living together. He sat in his luxurious living room, a glass of untouched whiskey on the shiny table. The bright city lights below seemed to mock him, a reminder of a world he no longer cared about.
  • His phone buzzed. It was Fred. Leo stared at the name for a long moment, a lump forming in his throat. He hadn't spoken to anyone in days, completely lost in the pain of Zara’s father’s rejection and the agonizing silence from Zara herself. He finally answered, his voice a hoarse whisper. "Hello."
  • "Leo, where are you?" Fred’s voice was a lifeline, a familiar anchor in a sea of despair. "I've been trying to reach you. I heard that Zara had been discharged. Are you okay?"
