Chapter 2 Three Conditions

  • Raven poked her head out from under the blanket and looked at Lori with a distant look.
  • Lori was shocked and pretended to blame herself. "Raven, it's my fault for not protecting you! I'm so sorry!"
  • Raven looked at her with a pair of dark eyes that hinted at mockery.
  • She was afraid to look at Raven because she was guilty, but Lori had to persuade her. After all, it concerned the future of Lancaster Incorporated.
  • Yesterday, the Mortimer Family came to discuss the marriage. Joseph mentioned that he was willing to offer them a collaboration on the megaproject as a dowry gift. Therefore, she had to persuade Raven to marry into the Mortimer Family. As long as Raven was married, they would obtain the megaproject without a doubt.
  • "How did something like this happen? You're a woman, and I've always taught you from a young age that a woman's virginity is very important. Given that this has happened between you and Elias, it is best for you to marry him," Lori persuaded.
  • Raven did not speak and simply stared at Lori.
  • Lori felt a tug at her heart as she met Raven's gaze and continued to convince her, "I've asked around and heard that Elias is a decent man. He's handsome, has a good personality, and is capable at work. He's a good man. I'm sure you'll be happy after you marry him."
  • Raven sneered, "If he's so great, why don't you marry Iris to him?"
  • At dinner yesterday, the two families agreed on Iris and Elias' marriage because he was the one who chose Iris as his wife.
  • Lori had a guilty conscience, so she took a deep breath and explained, "You're right, Raven. We had originally planned for Iris to marry him, and she has feelings for him as well, but something like this happened last night between the two of you. Well… Raven, can you tell me what really happened? Didn't you return to your room when you felt dizzy? How did you end up in Iris' room?"
  • Raven snickered in her heart. How did she end up in Iris' room? Were they planning to pin the blame on her and accuse her of seducing Elias? What made it even funnier was that she had no reason to refute her mom. Exactly! Why was she in Iris' room? If she claimed that she was drugged, where was the evidence? Last night, they all ate the same food.
  • Then, Raven's eyes flickered slightly as she inquired, "Where did Iris go last night?"
  • How could Iris not return to her room the entire night if it wasn't a calculated plan? Why would she wait until the morning to catch them in action?
  • Lori's guilty conscience crept up her eyes again, but she answered calmly, "I was busy persuading her the whole night."
  • Lori had to come up with an explanation why Iris had not returned to her room all night.
  • "Were you trying to persuade her to marry Elias?" Raven questioned.
  • "Yeah!" Lori smiled dryly.
  • "Didn't you say Iris has feelings for him? Why do you need to persuade her for one night?" The sarcasm within Raven's words intensified.
  • Lori choked up, and she felt a deep hatred for Raven. However, she didn't dare to offend her at the moment for the sake of the megaproject.
  • Lori responded with a smile, "She was reluctant at first."
  • "Is it because Elias is an illegitimate child?" Raven asked indifferently.
  • "You… Raven! How could you say such a thing?" Lori was annoyed.
  • She mockingly glanced at Lori. Was she not allowed to disclose what they did?
  • Raven sneered twice and continued, "Elias and I seem to be quite a good match. An illegitimate son and an illegitimate daughter!"
  • "Huh?" Lori looked at her, shocked.
  • "You're wondering how I knew my identity?" Raven asked with a grin.
  • Lori frowned and looked at Raven.
  • Raven smiled, but there was a hidden sorrow in her eyes that she didn't show on her face. "Aunt Lori, do you recall when Iris and I fought over a skirt when I was thirteen? It was then that she snatched my skirt, pointed at my nose, and called me an illegitimate daughter without parents."
  • She had just called her Aunt Lori. That's right, Gideon and Lori were her uncle and aunt. R's mother entrusted her to them when she was one month old because she wanted her to grow up in a complete family. However, she didn't realize they weren't her biological parents until she was thirteen.
  • When discovered the truth, she felt a lump in her throat and her head hurt badly. It wasn't that she didn't have a mother, but her mother died in a car accident when she was only a month old, and her mother could not provide her with the love she deserved. She overheard everything, and when she recalled the day that she discovered the truth, she hid behind the garden and cried for the whole afternoon.
  • After was born, her mother gave Gideon and Lori all her savings to help them transform Lancaster Trading Company into Lancaster Incorporated. All her mother asked in exchange was that they treat her daughter with kindness and allow her to grow up in a complete family, but what did they do? Raven's sisters were the ones who received everything in the best condition, while she could only get the leftovers.
  • Initially, even though they were not particularly kind to Raven, she was nonetheless grateful for their upbringing. However, since last night, her gratitude had transformed into a sharp knife that could sever her relationship with them.
  • Lori's facial expression twisted as she frowned and thought about how to persuade Raven to agree to the marriage.
  • She looked up at Lori and said monotonously, "I'm willing to get married, but there are three conditions!"
  • Lori was overjoyed to learn that Raven was willing to marry under certain conditions. So, she took her hand, caressed it, and said softly, "Let me know what you need. As your aunt, I am also your mom. You can assured that I will fulfill every condition as long as it is within my capabilities."
  • Raven withdrew her hand and demanded, "I want the bungalow in Primrose Hill."
  • Lori's expression changed, and she became irritated. The bungalow in Primrose Hill was the dowry they planned to give Iris, worth nearly eight million.
  • "Do you not agree?" She glanced at Lori with a half-smile.
  • Lori clenched her teeth and replied, "Of course, I do."
  • "My second condition is for Iris to return the necklace she took from me." It was the only item left to by her mother, but Iris took it away. Even though she had previously asked for it, Iris simply stated that she had lost it. Lori even told that it was just an ordinary necklace. There was no way Iris would eat it.
  • "No problem," Lori agreed without hesitation. She was not even interested in a useless necklace.
  • Raven added, "The third condition is that you tell me whether it was you or Iris who drugged me last night?"
  • "Drugged you? What kind of nonsense are you ?" Lori's expression changed instantly.
  • That was never to be mentioned!
  • "I will not marry if any of the three conditions are not met," Raven's demeanor was firm.
  • She glanced at Lori, her voice distant and indifferent as she spoke, "Aunt Lori, you may leave now. Once I am dressed, I'll go downstairs and tell Mr. Elias in person that I like someone else and will not marry him. We're all adults now, so it's not a big deal."
  • Lori sensed a strong threat in Raven's tone, which caused her to twitch her lips and hesitate before speaking. Lori was currently in a tough spot. If she admitted it, wouldn't that be the same as admitting they drugged her? However, if she didn't respond, Raven, that slut, wouldn't agree to marry. Then, wouldn't their megaproject go down the drain?
  • "Raven, I believe there has been a misunderstanding. How could we possibly have drugged you?" Lori decided to deny it after weighing the pros and cons.
  • Raven replied with a distant tone, "Please leave. I must inform Elias in person so that he does not have to wait too long."
  • Lori was infuriated, but she laughed dryly and kept denying, "Raven, there must be some sort of misunderstanding. Why would anyone in the family do such a thing?"
  • "If I don't make this clear, I will not marry a man for no reason. Aunt Lori, please leave."
  • Suddenly, the phone under the blankets rang, and Raven immediately fished the phone out.
  • She looked at Lori with a grin, "It's Elias. I will tell him over the phone that I will not marry him. That would be less embarrassing than doing it in person."
  • Lori panicked and stopped immediately. "No! I'm going to tell you."
