Chapter 11 Unhappy? Come and Bite Me!

  • Raven couldn't help but withdraw her smile when she saw Iris' name on the caller ID. She questioned with an indifferent tone, "What's the matter?"
  • Elias raised his head to look at Raven after he sensed something was off in her tone.
  • After that, Raven uttered with a sullen face, "I won't sell the bungalow."
  • "Even if you add another one million, I won't sell it."
  • "It now belongs to me, so I'll sell it when I want to. Otherwise, you can't do anything about it."
  • "From that day onward, I've cut all ties with your family."
  • "Heartless? Yes, I am."
  • "Not happy about it? Come and bite me, then."
  • "We don't have to meet up. I have nothing to say to you."
  • Raven hung up the phone with a sullen face, and when she looked up, she saw Elias looking at her.
  • She squeezed out an ugly smile due to embarrassment. "Hmm, let's have coffee!"
  • "We didn't order coffee," Elias said as he looked at her.
  • "Hmm, let's have lemonade then. Lemonade sounds good." Raven took a sip of the lemonade in front of her to hide her embarrassment.
  • While she had fun dissing Iris on the phone earlier, she forgot about Elias' existence. He was Iris' admirer, for goodness sake.
  • "Do the Lancasters want to buy the bungalow?" asked Elias.
  • "Yeah." Raven looked at him and smiled awkwardly.
  • "But you don't want to sell it?" he asked again.
  • "Yeah." She withdrew her smile.
  • "OK." Elias hummed as he held the lemonade in front of him and remarked, "It tastes good."
  • Raven looked at him with puzzled eyes. Is he blaming me?
  • Elias uttered, "If you don't want to sell it, don't."
  • He had returned the money and cost of the bungalow Raven had taken from the Lancasters. Therefore, Raven owned the assets and could do whatever she wanted.
  • In response to that, Raven glanced at Elias with bewilderment. When he said, 'If you don't want to sell it, then don't,' she was significantly moved. He seemed to treat her like a protective boyfriend.
  • Nobody had ever protected her like that since she was a child. Now, she finally experienced the feeling of being protected, and she felt warm.
  • "Thank you," Raven said with a smile.
  • Though she was smiling brightly on the outside, she was vulnerable inside.
  • Soon, the waiter served two plates of chicken chop. Raven immediately took one of the plates and started to dig in.
  • Her eyes had turned red from tears, so she lowered her head while eating so Elias wouldn't notice her teary eyes.
  • After the meal, the two sat in the cafe for more than two hours, but there was no call from Dr. Lent. Elias decided to take Raven to the hospital to have a look because he was afraid that Dr. Lent had forgotten to call them.
  • When they arrived at the hospital's entrance, Raven received a call from her classmate and close friend, Kayla Porter. Kayla sounded anxious on the phone. "Raven, what should I do? If something bad happens, my mother will kill me."
  • "What's wrong?" Raven's tone became a little anxious after hearing that. "How did you offend your mom?"
  • "Last week, I stole three thousand from my mother. She just found out and wants to kill me right now. She said the money was for my grandma's medical treatment, and she got so infuriated that she was going to explode. She even said that if she doesn't kill me today, she'll never rest in peace, but I didn't know about it earlier."
  • "Besides, I took the money to lend to my friend who was in need. She told me that she'll return the money the next day, but it's been a week and she has yet to return the money to me. I'm anxious too."
  • "My mother wants me to go to her house immediately and get the money back, or she'll rip my skin off, but I don't have the money. I might be able to give her one hundred or two hundred, but I don't have three thousand. She's trying to force me to a dead end. Can you help me, Raven? I-I've never really borrowed money from anyone." Kayla was about to cry on the phone.
  • Raven smiled slightly as she learned it was only three thousand. "Give me your account number. I'll transfer it to you immediately."
  • Kayla was anxious on the other end of the phone. "Don't. I don't have my bank card with me now, so I can't get it even if you transfer it to me. Where are you now? I'll come and find you instead. I'm at the cafe diagonally across from Mansfield Hospital. Are you far from here? Should I come to you, or can you come to me? Raven, you have no idea how scared I am right now. I was close to insanity."
  • As soon as she heard that Kayla was at the cafe across the street, Raven uttered, "Let me know if you have financial difficulties in the future. I'll come to you now. Just give me a few minutes."
  • Despite the Lancasters' sixty million, Raven was quite wealthy. She had been a part-time financial trader since she was sixteen years old. She would buy a few stocks while she assisted her clients' trade. In addition, Raven had a secret identity—an international hacker, Mr. Dwayne. It was easy for her to earn money regardless of her status.
  • "All right, I will," Kayla responded vigorously on the other end of the phone.
  • Raven apologized to Elias as she hung up the phone, "My friend is just across the street. I'll go over and come back."
  • He nodded. "I'll be in Grandpa's ward. Come and find me when you're done, or give me a call, and I'll pick you up."
  • She smiled slightly and pointed across the street. "You don't have to pick me up. She's just across the street. I'll see you shortly."
  • Elias nodded slightly and asked, "Do you have enough cash?"
  • He had just heard her on the phone, so he assumed she would send money to her friend.
  • "I think so." Raven felt a slight warm sensation in her chest.
  • "Okay," Elias responded.
  • "I'll head over now." She then strode across the street.
  • On the other hand, Elias went straight to the hospital. His tall figure always gave people a sense of distance and aloofness. It was difficult to approach him.
  • Raven spotted Kayla seated in the cafe diagonally opposite the hospital.
  • Kayla immediately stood up with red eyes and a grateful expression when she saw her. "Raven, thank you. You are my life savior. Otherwise, I might probably have been beaten to death by my mother."
  • Raven didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but she didn't delay any longer. Immediately, she opened her bag, took out her wallet, and shoved a stack of bills at Kayla. "Check if it's three thousand here."
  • Kayla counted them immediately and stuffed the remaining dozen bills into Raven's palm. "This is enough, Raven. I'll send money to my mother right now, and we'll talk later."
  • Raven quickly responded, "Go ahead."
  • Then, Kayla rushed out.
  • Raven smiled as she stuffed the remaining bills into her bag and prepared to leave. Just then, a familiar figure walked in, and who else could it be but Iris?
  • Iris stood tall in high heels, her chin raised with a smug smile. "Hey! Isn't it a small world?"
  • Raven did not bother to pay attention to Iris, walked past her, and left the cafe.
  • Suddenly, Iris reached out and grabbed her wrist. "Wait. We haven't had a good chat yet."
  • "We have nothing to talk about." Raven looked alienated.
  • Iris was not annoyed at all. Instead, the smile on her face was wide, and she was pleased. Whenever she thought of the seventy million she received from Elias, she was delighted.
  • What did it mean to get seventy million from Elias? It meant that she not only profited two million from the bungalow but also took a large sum of money from Raven and Elias' marriage funds. Now that Raven was married to Elias, wasn't his money hers? How much money did Elias have as an illegitimate child? How much would their marriage be affected without the seventy million? Just thinking about it made Iris exhilarated.
  • Iris exclaimed with a broad grin, "But I have something to discuss with you. Let's take a seat."
  • Saying that, Iris clicked her fingers and called, "Excuse me."
