Chapter 7

- "So how is it?" Lila asked while holding a breath as she watched Kyle take the first bite.
- Kyle’s brows drew together, his expression one of critical appraisal, like a master chef carefully testing a dish.
- "Mmm, not bad. But I think if you buttered the vegetables more, it would have been—"
- "Kyle, you're such a jerk. I'm not eating with you. I'm leaving!" Lila feigned to be hurt by his remark and started to get up.
- Kyle laughed at her antics and grasped her wrists. He pulled her back in her chair and playfully slapped her forehead.
- "I always ask you to bring me food because nothing compares to your cooking, Lila. Otherwise, I’d be stuck with takeout, and it’s just not the same."
- "I know," Lila stuck her tongue out. "But two can play this game."
- She giggled and pulled his cheek. Kyle smiled warmly in response, making her clench her thighs tightly. She froze in the moment as her eyes lingered on his lips, at the gorgeous smile he wore, and at how he glowed with an otherworldly aura. Her heart fluttered, looking at his handsome features.
- The entire house was wrapped in darkness. All the lights have been extinguished, except for one radiant glow— the chandelier hanging over the dinner table. The warm and golden illumination cast a romantic ambiance. The dining table, set with fine china and sparkling glasses, shone like an oasis under the soft light.
- Shadows danced on the walls as they made movements while the table's centerpiece— a vase filled with fresh flowers— seemed to bloom in the gentle light. The air was alive with their fresh smell while Kyle's elegant dining etiquette was a sensual waltz, drawing her in.
- Since he entrusted Lila with the responsibility of his meals, she also took liberty in setting his lunches and dinners in romantic and intimate environment. Although he never saw it as an intimate dinner with her, he praised her for going out of the way to make him feel special. He assumed she did that to elevate his mood after spending hours at office.
- However, only Lila knew the truth behind her attempts. She did that all for herself— to make herself feel rewarded for being in so much pain sensually.
- It was oppressive to be so close to Kyle, and yet be so physically far away. The barrier of friendship irritated her. And while she was slowly making her way to his heart, she let such dinners and lunches feed her sensual desires.
- As they sat across from each other, the gentle light danced across their faces, highlighting the contours of their features. Lila's eyes sparkled like diamonds, while his gaze shone with gratitude.
- When they finished their dinner, Kyle moaned in pure delight as the taste of the food still remained on his tongue.
- "Honestly, Lila, you're the best cook in the world. I miss your food when I'm on international trips." Lila shyly lowered her face.
- His kind words was the recipe of her happiness, which encouraged her to spend hours in the kitchen.
- She was lovingly watching him take bite after bite while he kept talking to her. Although she didn't hear what he was saying, his voice played like music in her ears. It was interrupted by the loud blaring of his cellphone.
- "Just a sec," Kyle excused himself to take the call.
- His handsome face turned into a frown as his hold on the fork loosened, causing it to fall with a noise on the plate, "What? Where did she go? Ask the doctors and go to the security room for relevant footages of her leaving the hospital."
- "Titus, that woman is important. I want to know where she went." The restless edge to his tone made Lila grit her teeth.
- 'Who the hell is this woman now? I just got rid of one and there's already another waiting to make my love life a mess.' Lila fumed inwardly but on the outside she maintained a calm look.
- Whoever this woman was was going to have a hard time. Harder than the model she handled not an hour ago. She already pictured what she was going to do to her when suddenly she felt appalled as she thought.
- "Did he just mention hospital? Oh my god? Don't tell me he impregnated a woman under my nose? I will kill her and that damned baby if that's true.' Lila seethe like a stormy sea.
- She heard Kyle order his PA to hire an investigation squad to conduct a thorough search for the woman. He came off as worried and reckless as though the woman was precious. Just the thought of that made her anger double.
- 'I have been the one and only precious woman in his life and I don't have any plan to share my spot with some bitch! Kyle, I'm sorry in advance.'
- Lila shifted in her seat, her appetite long dead. She stared at Kyle impatiently as she watched him go on and on with his warnings and reminders to Titus.
- "What's wrong? You sounded worried while you were talking to Titus. Who's this woman? Do I know her? I heard you talk about her being in the hospital. Everything okay?" She bombarded him with back to back questions the second Kyle hung up his phone.
- "Don't be disappointed in me, Lila, but I fúcked up a great deal." His tone carried the weight of sorrow.
- Tears of weary burned in the back of Lila's eyes. She was sure it had something to do with a woman's pregnancy; and from the regret in his voice, there was no doubt he was involved.
- "You're scaring me, Kyle? What is it?" She asked while digging her nails in her lap, drawing out blood.
- Kyle shared everything with her. Her heart beat went back to normal as peace settled into her soul. Thank god he didn't impregnate a woman, although he made one lose her unborn child.
- "That's outrageous, Kyle! How could you do that? How could you think giving her a check was enough after causing her miscarriage." She glared at him sternly.
- However, beneath her fiery facade, happiness bloomed. The woman and her baby both were better off dead for all her care. Lila was relieved that Kyle wasn't involved in that pregnancy.
- "You have no idea what that woman went through to conceive that child! The struggles, the hopes, the dreams! And you took it all away in a split second"
- "It was an accident! I swear I didn't see her! She just jumped in front of my car."
- "An accident?! You took a life, Kyle! A precious, innocent life! It's not just an accident." Lila scolded him. "You should have been careful around the zebra crossing."
- "It’s common for some to make a last-second dash to cross the road before the signal changes to red. What if it was a child crossing the road?"
- "And what if the child was yours and someone else hit him? Would you still say that he jumped in front of his car?"
- Kyle's face became dull in contrition. The example of his own child crossing the road made it all the way more worse. Lila was right. He made a grave mistake.
- "I know...I feel awful." He said softly, with low spirits.
- "You can't even begin to comprehend the value of that life! Conceiving a child is a miracle! The countless attempts, the prayers, the anticipation! And you crushed it all!" Lila continued with her charade to look nice.
- "I know I made a terrible mistake, which is why I decided to provide her with the best treatment and doctors."
- His words made her nostrils flare. But since he was looking down at his plate of food, he didn't notice it.
- But that was a bit too much he was doing for that woman. Lila thought. Such VIP treatments often fueled greed in women, transforming them into manipulators who then exploited men like Kyle, leading them to prey upon their vulnerability for long term monetary gain.
- "It's okay. There's no need to be so sad. You didn't do it intentionally nor did you know that she was pregnant. Paying for her treatment is a good way to compensate her." Lila quickly said so she could change the topic before it increased her temper.
- What happened next left her utterly baffled.
