• The sky had darkened completely by the time Lila arrived at Kyle's mansion. Jojo and Maria were preparing dinner in the kitchen. Avoiding them, Lila headed for the stairs. She came to Kyle's room and found it empty.
• Lila came back down and asked them about Jasmine. Her teeth gnawed in annoyance because they stared at each other before Jojo answered, as though they were silently discussing whether to tell her or not.
