• Zoey smiled awkwardly, nodding to Jason. "I’ll try calling her," she said, pulling out her phone. She dialed Lauren’s number, but after a few rings, there was still no answer. She let out a small, nervous laugh. "Maybe she ran out of battery," she said, shrugging, trying to play it off casually.
• But she knew something was wrong. She inhaled sharply, muttering to herself. “Come on, Lauren, you can't be missing.”
• Her eyes widened as an idea popped up in her head; she dialed Shane’s number. After a few rings, he picked up. "Um, I don't know why I have your number, but is Lauren there with you? Her line has a flat battery, and I couldn't think of anyone to call other than you.”
