Chapter 4
- Malia’s POV
- “Is she my child?” he asked again, coming to take a sit directly in front of me.
- His chair was facing me and he was looking right into my eyes, I could feel the air leave my lungs as I struggled to breathe.
- “The features you described are both mine and yours, is the child mine?” He repeated, studying my features carefully.
- When I didn’t speak or give any answer, he nodded and looked away.
- “You know I don’t care, if she is mine or not right?” He finally said after what felt like an eternity of silence.
- “What do you mean?” I replied for the first time since he spoke to me.
- “I will love her like she is mine regardless of whose child she is,” he confessed now turning to look at me.
- “Her father is well and very active in her life,” I lied not wanting him to get involved in my affairs.
- “We could give her all the love and care she deserves,” he continued, ignoring my statement.
- “I don’t need you, my partner and I are giving her all she needs,” I continued to lie, trying to reinforce that I didn’t need him.
- “I don’t see a wedding band, you look like a mess and you don’t know where your child is, it seems to me like your “partner” is just a figment of imagination.
- “Are you calling me a liar?” I demanded, trying to mask the fact that his words had gotten to me.
- “Calm down Princess, all I am saying is that you need more help, I don’t care if she isn’t mine, we would make a very beautiful family, I have always said that,” he replied in a soothing tone, melting all the anger I had tried to build up.
- “Of course, right before, you left me alone in the hospital and got engaged to my boss,” I mocked, laughing so that I wouldn’t cry.
- He suddenly fell silent and turned to look out the window.
- “I thought so too,” I said in spite, I didn’t want to remember any of those dark days but here he was, pushing my limits.
- “Things are not always as they seem, I looked everywhere for you,” he said still looking out the window.
- “I swore you wouldn’t find me,” I replied firmly, it was seven years, I succeeded for seven years but then that one news yesterday afternoon had opened the can of worms.
- “I saw you got married, why do need a family now?” I said seeing the effect talking about this situation had on him but more than that I actually wanted to know what happened to his family.
- “She left when my business took a big hit,” he said quietly turning away from the window and looking at the floor of the plane.
- “Just like you left me at my lowest,” I whispered, just loud enough for him to hear.
- I knew this was a low blow but it was only fair he felt how I did when he left me for dead in the hospital that day.
- “I know and I am sorry but we can start again, we can take care of our children properly and have a beautiful family,”
- “Do you really think I don’t know how to take care of my daughter?” I screamed in anger as tears rolled down my cheeks, I couldn’t do this anymore.
- “Wait, did you say children?” I asked just fully processing the words he said.
- “Did he have a child?” I wondered as I cleaned my eyes not wanting him to see me cry.
- “Yes, children, I have a daughter, her name is Joan, and she is five years old,” he said in a low tone, still looking at the floor.
- “And her mother?” I inquired, now very interested in the story he had to tell.
- “Selena has custody of her for now but she does more partying than actually taking care of the child and I am scared for Joan’s future,” he answered silently finally looking at my face.
- “Please,” was all he said before looking out the window again.
- “So, it is about your selfish interest, isn’t it?” I retorted feeling a bitter taste in my mouth.
- “No, it is because I love you and want a family with you.” He said looking into my eyes.
- “You had one chance, you ruined it, you left me to die, and now you want to just come back on a whim? How dare you?” I asked feeling my blood boil and my eyes water.
- “Listen I…” he tried to explain but I cut him off.
- “No need, there is nothing left to say, that was all in the past,” I said ending the conversation, I wasn’t ready to remember all that pain.
- I walked to the bathroom needing to put myself together, I cried bitterly remembering all those days and the pain that made me run away.
- “It is all in the past,” I reminded myself as I wiped my tears and composed myself.
- Looking at the mirror, I tried to wash my face and repack my hair, I couldn’t possibly go to my father’s house looking like this, but after about ten minutes and a lot of work, I looked somewhat presentable.
- “That should do it,” I said taking a deep breath and bracing myself to sit next to Zach for the rest of the flight.
- Coming out of the bathroom, I walked back to my seat, Zach was staring out the window as he had done for most of this time and the rest of the flight was in silence.
- “Thank you for all your help today,’ I said to him as we walked out of the plane and I took my bag.
- He nodded and without another word, we went our separate ways, I felt a pang of pain but ignored it and focused on the task at hand, I needed to get to The William Mansion in one hour.
- “State your name and the purpose of your visit,” the security man said on getting to the mansion entrance.
- “Malia Williams, I came for the reading of my father’s will,” I replied with a sigh, feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders.
- “You are mistaken Ma’am, Sir William never had a daughter,” the man replied denying me entrance into my own father’s Mansion.
