- I needed to tell him about what I had seen. I needed to ask him about the woman at the hospital, the one who looked so familiar. I had convinced myself that it had been someone important to him, maybe a girlfriend or even Joan’s mother. But every time I thought about bringing it up, fear crept in. Fear that whatever answer he gave would shatter the fragile hope that was beginning to bloom in my chest.
