• “Ivy, it's your uncle's birthday and we need to attend it. He heard of your engagement, you and your boss must go. He is like the head of the extended family,” Ivy's mom said, trying to convince Ivy.
• “Oh Mom, please spare me. When you were sick and we needed money, where was he as the head of the extended family? He didn't even act as if he heard you were sick. We called him and went to his house but he didn't have any money to give. And just a few months later he is celebrating his birthday, mom, that's just wickedness,” Ivy said, her gaze hard.
• “And also, I can't even think of a way to tell Jay to come. I told you not to tell anyone about it. Mom, you know it's just a contract and I can't tell him what to do. Why would I invite him to a family party?” Ivy asked.
