Chapter 10

  • She went back to her office, she needed time to think about it, lots of things were happening so fast, in a short period of time.
  • Jay was a very tall handsome man and he had all the billions he needed to marry whoever he wanted, but how he came up with such an idea was what she didn’t quite understand.
  • With his physique, his well built muscles, one could only imagine how ladies would be on the run just to have him.
  • ************
  • “She sure doesn’t want her mother to live and that’s on her,” Jay panicked as he walked round his office with his folded sleeved white shirt that revealed his huge arm. He was angry, maybe not angry as per say but he was not happy.
  • He sighed, thinking of what other options he had next. It was either he goes on to find a total stranger and that was going to be difficult.
  • Pacing up and down in his large office space, he knew Ivy needed the money, it was an enticing offer and could do alot for her family, if only she could calm down to think it through.
  • He never expected she would even want to think about it twice. For Jay, he had expected her to jump for joy and rush to grab such a juicy offer.
  • Even if she walked for him in the office for a whole year she wasn’t going to get that huge amount of money. And there she was, throwing such a juicy office to the drain.
  • “Goddamnit!” he kicked the wall in anger.
  • He couldn’t even describe why he was angry. He had the money yet he wasn’t getting all he wanted. He wanted more!
  • Losing Shield Limited was not going to affect him financially, he had enough to set up some other things for himself but he wanted Shield Limited and that was final.
  • ************
  • “Goodness! This is completely tempting!” Ivy said, rubbing her hands through her hair, as it turned to a mess.
  • She had tried to continue with sorting the documents on her desk but she was not concentrating. Her mind was divided.
  • A few minutes ago, she had the solution to all her problems right in front of her but she did not take hold of it.
  • “What was I thinking?” she sighed, slamming her pen on the desk and resting her back properly on her seat.
  • She, her mother, her father, in fact, all her being needed that money. It was going to do a lot of things for her.
  • Not like Jay was asking her for anything aside from what he stated, she wasn’t even in his caliber of women to begin with.
  • “I hope it’s not too late,” she said as she stood up and headed to her boss’ office.
  • Maybe it was an opportunity to prove herself to him as she had always wanted to build a good working relationship with Jay since the first day she started.
  • Reluctantly, she knocked the door after hesitating for a while.
  • “Come in!” she heard Jay answered.
  • Walking in, she was ashamed. She wished she has gone come back, but there was no time for that now.
  • “I accept the offer, Sir,” she said as she cracked her fingers and made some movements with them.
  • “As expected, I know that was too enticing to let go,” Jay mumbled in a very low tone.
  • “Sir?”
  • “N—Nothing. You may have a seat,” he replied.”
  • This time, Ivy did not need to wait to be asked the second time.
  • She quietly sat on one of the seats, “Thank you, Sir.”
  • “Let’s get straight into it. I want your full attention,” he said.
  • “Alright, Sir. I’m listening.”
  • “First, let me make this clear, this is just acting and it should remain that. I do not want you putting in your emotions in the long run.”
  • “I know this, Sir.” She responded in affirmation.
  • Was he thinking she liked him that much to even date him? He had been rude to her many times and the only reason she hoped to improve their relationship was because he was her employer. She hated that she was always getting at loggerheads with him.
  • “Good, not like I will either. So let this just be for the “people to see” and between the both of us. Once we get married, after a few months this will be over,” he explained.
  • She could not believe she was agreeing to this; to such an agreement, to marry her boss even though it was just for the money and for whatever reason he was doing it, she didn't buy the idea but she truly had no choice.
  • This was a chance to help her mother live and she was about to jump on it.
  • “B—But, may I ask why you want to do this, I mean you could just get someone you love, probably a girlfriend, then get married,” she asked, baffled.
  • “I don’t think that should be your business, as long as I’m paying you for this. Just do your goddamn job, okay?”
  • “Yeah. Okay.”
  • “Good!”
  • “How long would this take?” she asked.
  • “Hm…Say about six to seven months' time,” he answered.
  • Six months was a long time to fake being in love with someone she was not even emotionally attached to, but she had no choice.
  • “I’ll let you know when the document is ready, I’ll need you to get it signed,” he added upon noticing her silence.
  • “Least I forget, do you have a boyfriend?”
  • “Uhn?… Ye—N—No Sir,” she was almost confused about what to say.
  • “Good, there shouldn’t be an issue then. Just play your part right and handle the rest.”
  • He pulled out the cheque book from his drawer.
  • “Sir, you can just make a transfer,” she insisted, she was happy and for a while in a very long time, she felt at peace.
  • “Okay then, you'll receive it soon,” Jay said as he returned the cheque book and then picked up his phone to make the cash transfer.
  • A message dropped almost immediately. Was it that quick? Ivy thought, as she excitedly unlocked her phone, to check the incoming message.
  • Ivy already lost her focus, and was shaken up, as she read through a text message she just received on her phone from an unknown number. It wasn't an alert notification as she thought.
