Chapter 11 A Costly Mistake
- My breath came out in short puffs as I raced into the elevator at the last minute. Catching my reflection on the glass planes of the elevator, I was appalled. Hair flying around, sweat beading on my forehead, my makeup cracking under the sweat—I looked horrible.
- But I couldn't care less. Jake's tone this morning didn't hold time for such pleasures. I tumbled into his office and almost fell face-first, but Conrad caught me.
- “Thanks.” He nodded and slithered away, leaving me with a very stone-faced Jake. He was tapping his foot and this time I couldn't complain. The fact that he hadn't said anything crude about my look or entrance showed how serious the situation was.
