Chapter 4 Rescue
- Niklaus' POV
- Since the moment I stepped into this pack house, I had not been myself. I was smelling something, and I knew what it was. The scent of a mate. That was something I didn't expect, and I was not even looking forward to. I was a very busy Alpha, and I believed that a mate would only be a distraction to my meticulous and carefully planned out life. I tried to ignore the scent, even if it was driving me insane. The mate pull was stronger for Alphas.
- But then, the scent began to draw closer, until I sighted her, not too tall, dark skin with voluptuous curly hair, a picture of beauty and elegance, yet she was a bundle of nerves, looking so unsure of herself as she stepped in. I couldn't ignore her anymore, and I had no choice but to ask her for a dance.
- Now, seeing how she was being treated here by Alpha Ronald made my blood boil. I didn't know what they had between them, but I intend to find out.
- Alpha Ronald had taken her away some moments ago, but I could still smell her.
- I decided to send a mind link to Mario, one of the warriors that came with me.
- 'Find Alpha Ronald, and let me know his every move.'
- 'Yes, Alpha.' His response came immediately. Mario was good at spying people undetected, and that was why I liked taking him wherever I went.
- It didn't take very long before he sent me a feedback. 'The Alpha is coming down the grandstairs of the pack house. He looks pissed.'
- 'Is he alone?'
- 'Yes.'
- I wondered if this was a good time to go look for my mate. It was still day time, and everywhere was busy. The whole pack house was swarming with omegas working, both within and outside.
- But if I waited till night, I might not get the chance to save her.
- 'Just follow the Alpha, and let me know when he enters any room.'
- 'Yes, Alpha.'
- I took a glass of wine of a waiter and downed everything in one gulp before returning the glass to him.
- I then left the ballroom.
- Following the scent, I entered the main pack house building. Having been assigned a room in it, I was able to just walk in without arousing suspicion.
- I made my way up the stairs, passing the floor of my assigned room. This might raise questions, but I didn't care right now.
- By the time I got to the last floor, I could smell her strongly. I could tell the exact room she was in, and I just walked there. Luckily, the floor was almost empty, as everyone was busy with the ball.
- The only problem I had right now was the guard stationed in front of the room she was in. I could easily take him out, but that would draw attention. But having no other choice, I simply walked up to him. He was the stupid one I saw dragging my mate away from the ballroom.
- He was taken aback by my presence there, and he seemed unsure how to act.
- "Move away, and we will not have a problem." I told him calmly, and I noticed how he looked around nervously.
- "But my Alpha..."
- "Is not here right now." I cut him off. I noticed how his gaze lost focus, and I knew that he was about to send a mind link, and in that moment, I grabbed his neck and snapped it. He slumped on the floor, unconscious.
- I tried to open the door but it was locked. I then searched his body for a key, but there was nothing. The key would probably be with Alpha Ronald.
- "Fuck!"
- I placed my ear on the door, wanting to hear a sound. I could easily tell that the room was soundproofed, but with my Alpha hearing, I was able to hear something.
- Soft whimpers, muffled cries. I could smell her strongly, and she needed help. The only option was to break this door down. I was not sure I had enough time to look for a weapon, so I resorted to using my body.
- 'Mario, look for a way to distract everyone out of the pack house.'
- 'Yes, Alpha.'
- And not too long after, a fire started in one of the rooms downstairs, followed by the blaring of a fire alarm. The remaining omegas and elders in the pack house started to run out.
- That was it. Gathering my strength, I hit my body strongly against the door.
- The door was of very highly quality, thick and strong, so it was not going to be an easy feat. I repeated the action again and again, ignoring the pain that it was causing me. Cracks began to appear on the door, motivating me even more.
- Finally, I broke it down. I didn't waste anytime entering the room.
- "Valerie!" I yelled, and I heard scrambling coming from the connecting door. I guess it was the bathroom.
- "Alpha Niklaus?"
- Fuck! She was locked in there. Anger boiled inside of me. It was an effort not to go find Alpha Ronald right now and make him regret treating her like this.
- "Just hang on."
- I looked around the room, and I grabbed a wooden reading chair, before going back to the bathroom door.
- "Back away, Valerie."
- It was until I heard her footsteps move back that I began to hit the door. It didn't take too long before the door broke down, breaking the chair in the process.
- I quickly entered the room. I didn't wait to hear anything from her, I just scooped her up in my arms, and she wrapped her hands around my neck, holding me firmly.
- "Alpha Ronald. He might see me." Valerie said, her voice shaken with fear.
- "Let him see." I bit out bitterly.
- And just like she feared, we met Alpha Ronald in the middle of the stairs, but I didn't put her down.
- "Put her down. She is an omega of this pack." Alpha Ronald demanded, his features dripping with anger.
- "She was."
- "I can still fucking feel the pack bond with her. Put her down."
- I then placed Valerie down in front of me, but I had my hands around her waist.
- "Denounce his pack, sweetheart."
- "Don't you fucking dare!" He threatened her, and from the way she suddenly flinched, I guessed that he said more to her through the mind link.
- "Denounce him." I encouraged her, caressing her back, urging her on.
- "I, Valerie Ava Montrell..."
- "Don't you dare, Omega! You will regret it." Ronald seethed.
- "...reject you, Alpha Ronald Ewan..."
- "Valerie no!" He looked so desperate, and I wondered why he was holding on so much to her. He did say that she was just an omega, so why was he so hellbent on keeping her?
- "...as my Alpha, and the Blood moon pack as my pack!"
- Alpha Ronald placed one hand on his chest and groaned in pain. He was almost falling to his knees, but he held on to the rails of the stairs. That was a little too dramatic for just a pack bond break.
- I picked Valerie up again and took her out.
- But the moment we were out, we were surrounded by the Beta and Gamma of this pack, together with the Alphas, Betas, and elders of other packs.
- Everyone was looking at me, surprise in the eyes of some of them, some anger, and others were just there for the drama.
- "You just broke one of the pack protocols, Alpha Niklaus." Alpha Dawson, one of the older Alpha spoke.
- "He broke into my room and he is attempting to run away with a member of my pack." Alpha Ronald spoke behind me. I turned to see him. He was still holding his chest, and he was struggling to speak.
- "Keep the girl down, Alpha Niklaus." Alpha Dawson demanded.
- I held Valerie even tighter, as I let my gaze sweep through all of them.
- "No."
- "You don't go against an Alpha in his own pack."
- I watched them all again, seeing how they were determined to stop me from leaving with her.
- I suddenly put Valerie down, and she turned to me, hurt flitting through her eyes.
- "Valerie is no longer a member
- of this pack..." I stated, before I gently cupped her face. "And I am not leaving here without her, because she is my mate."
