• "Enough," I hissed in frustration. "Jake, I need some time to think about this. Can you not intervene, Silas?" Silas gave an indignant glance at Jake, but when he looked at me, it was a hurting gaze as Silas marched out of the room.
• "Thank you very much, Elena; I await your response." As I was processing Jake's remarks, he kissed my forehead. Janice and I are the only ones remaining after Jake has departed.
