Chapter 22 A Blind Date

• I received a notification on my phone, and it was a message from Zoe. She mentioned that she had to leave for a trip and wouldn’t return until next week, which happens to be my birthday, although she’s unaware of that fact. Before heading out for the blind date my mom had arranged for me, I gave her a kiss on the cheek. I couldn’t help but notice that her health was deteriorating day by day, despite the medication she was taking. She had even started chemotherapy, and while I felt it was wrong to keep this from my dad, I wanted to honor her wishes.
• I hopped into my car and drove to the restaurant where I was supposed to meet my date. Mom had told me that she was 23, the same age as Zoe. As I walked into the restaurant, I spotted her right away; she was dressed elegantly, which was no surprise given her affluent background. It seemed that her polished style was a constant, even outside of her professional life.
