Chapter 57

• “Let me see that.” Finn reached for the watch I was holding. I looked up at him, hesitant to let go of my father’s watch. He gave me a small smile, “I’ll be careful with it.”
• I felt Darren’s hand slide around my waist as I dropped the watch in Finn’s hand. I was quiet on the outside, but my mind was racing. Maybe it was foolish to hope that this might mean my father was still alive. After all this time, if he was alive, he would have found his way back to my mother. A little note in a watch didn’t mean anything, but I guess there was still a little girl in me who wanted her daddy to still be alive. It would be nice to at least have one parent still around.
• I felt Darren’s nose trace over my neck as he nuzzled into me. He must be getting anxious because I was being quiet but I couldn’t find the words. Instead, I smiled and reached up to brush my fingers over his cheek. I wanted him to know I was okay. I was just thinking.
