• “I knew it!” Lyle snorted, wagging his finger at me. “I knew you were hiding something!”
• “How did you know? I don’t think even Darren knew.” Lyle and I were sitting out on the balcony drinking our coffee. Darren had to take care of official business early this morning and had been busy the last few hours. When I came out of my room, Lyle was there, waiting for me. I guess he had become my default babysitter.
• “Darren is the one intimate with you, but you and I have been spending a lot of time together. I’m picking up on those subtle changes of yours. I know what’s normal and what isn’t.”
