  • A black lycan pricked his ears forward and stepped in front of the others. Immediately, they all settled down showing this one was their leader. The black lycan shifted back to his human self to show me he wasn’t a threat. He was a large man with a strong jawline, an exhausted face, with deep-set wrinkles forming above his forehead, as if they held the weight of time itself. His presence spoke of years and battles, and his eyes — I felt like I knew those eyes. I felt a knot in my chest. “I’ll stand on two legs,” he said, his tone calm but wary, “if you do the same.”
  • My temper spiked at the audacity of his request, but curiosity prevented me from lashing out. They had to be hiding something. I eyed the other lycans before I complied, shifting into human form. I felt the pressure of my anger pulsing beneath the surface, ready to explode at the first misstep.
