Chapter 33

• “Here’s the room. The diaries are under the desk in the safe, and the keys are in the drawer.” Cleo held the door open as we walked inside. She stayed there watching as I pulled the key out of the drawer. “I’ll leave you to it. When you’re finished, just lock the diaries back up. We don’t allow them to leave this room. I won’t hover, so take your time.”
• Lyle watched as she closed the door and then glanced back at me. “You buying this?”
• “Not at all. I’m guessing she thinks what I read in these diaries is going to change my mind.” I shrugged, bending down to unlock the box. “The thing is, that Darren isn’t my Darren. It’s almost like I’ll be reading about someone with the same name, but it isn’t him.”
