Chapter 9

  • CHAPTER 9
  • OLIVIA'S POV
  • For a moment, I chose to believe she didn’t just ask me that.
  • Coming back to the company? I couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly at the question. They now have everything they ever wanted, so I wondered why they suddenly cared about me coming back. I was still trying to understand why they were suddenly over the moon about my return.
  • “Sam,” I called out to her with a straight face, “I’m not coming back to the company. Y’all can have it, dear. I check the news, and I see you’re really doing a fantastic job as the CEO. Keep it up, sis,” I said in a sarcastic tone.
  • And she smiled. “Thank you, sis, but…”
  • “No buts, Samantha,” I interjected. “I have somewhere I really need to be right now. I don’t have time to continue this conversation.”
  • “Sis, I understand you might be in a hurry, but can’t we fix a date and catch up? Sisters do catch up, right?”
  • I flashed her a small smile. “Of course, sis. We will catch up some other time, dear. Keep up the good work.”
  • Samantha’s face fell, and for a moment, I saw a flash of the real Samantha—the one who is ruthless, cunning, and willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants.
  • Once I stood up, she stood up with me. “Where are you headed, sis? I can drop you off wherever you’re going. I don’t care,” she offered.
  • But I turned with a proud smirk. “Don’t worry, dear. I came in here with my own car. I’m good.”
  • There was a slight delay in her response before she nodded, and I could see she was a little shocked that I now had a car. Well, if I was back in Italy with Alessandro, he had a fleet of cars that he allowed me to use. But then again, I have my own cars—about three of them—even if I barely use them; they were still mine.
  • Right now, I didn’t come here with any, but I didn’t mind taking a cab rather than sitting with that cunning bitch in the same vehicle.
  • As I walked away, I could feel Samantha’s eyes on me, boring into my back like daggers. But I didn’t care. I would have my revenge and make that bitch crawl back to me.
  • Once I left the lounge, I hailed a cab and made my way to the playground. I wanted to stall Jaden and Jane for a few more minutes so I could be sure that Samantha had left. None of them must know that I have a son just yet.
  • Taking out my phone, I first dialed the realtor's number, and once she picked up…
  • “Hello, Miss Olivia. I’m sorry I forgot to call you. Everything has been fixed, ma’am. You can park in anytime from now,” she said.
  • That was all I needed to hear. “Thank you!” I said and ended the call. Then I proceeded inside the playground, which was now sparse, with just a few children. Scanning the area, my eyes finally fell on my son.
  • Once I spotted him, my heart swelled with love and relief. I was glad he wasn't on his way home; I wouldn’t want Samantha to ever lay her lying eyes on him for any reason.
  • “Mommy!” he exclaimed, throwing himself into my arms when he saw me. I swept him up in a tight hug, feeling a sense of joy and contentment wash over me. I planted kisses all over his face, and he giggled, squirming in delight as I carried him.
  • “It’s time to go,” I said softly, and he nodded. Then I smiled and ruffled his hair.
  • ********
  • The next day, as early as seven o'clock, I was at work. Today would officially be my first day, and I knew I needed to be on time before the main attorney I might be under as an intern arrived. My internship program wouldn’t take more than two calendar months. I just happened to be out of the law scene for a while, so I needed something to get me back in. Partnering with the Jerkins Law Firm? That would be the best push I needed.
  • Upon entering, I greeted the attorneys who were already at their respective desks.
  • “Your desk is in Mr. Williams’ office,” one of the attorneys said, and I froze.
  • “Sorry, I’m an intern. It seems like you’re mistaking me for someone else,” I said with a soft smile.
  • “Aren’t you Miss Olivia?”
