Chapter 15 Rowan's Favor

  • In fact, the reason Denise offered Selena to take on the job was because Rowan Gregory was supposedly the spokesperson for the men's clothing of Hayden Group. However, Rowan was a difficult person to please as he stubbornly refused to be the spokesman of any apparel brand, no matter how many times Leah sent someone to persuade him.
  • While the spokesperson had to be appointed the next day, she believed Dimitri would likely ask for an update by then. Thus, she was hoping that Selena would screw up so that she could blame all the responsibility that was initially hers on the latter without getting herself into trouble. What a win-win situation!
  • Meanwhile, Selena had no idea what Denise was up to. When she went through the details, she saw Rowan's name, which she found rather familiar. However, she couldn't recall who Rowan was and decided to just move on, flagging down a cab and making her way to Stardust Entertainment. Nevertheless, she was immediately met with a harsh rejection as soon as she approached the front desk.
  • "What? You're from the Hayden Group? Mr. Gregory will not work with anyone from the Hayden Group, and he won't see you." The receptionist was surprised as she sized Selena up. "If you think your good looks are going to make you an exception, then you're miserably wrong."
  • Selena was puzzled when she heard the receptionist's response. What's the story between Rowan and the Hayden Group? They're like cats and dogs who've been fighting for centuries. Besides, how come a mere receptionist knows so much about that?
  • She helplessly placed her hands on her waist, finally knowing why Denise offered her to take on the job. Just as Selena was about to leave and come back another day, she heard an agitated man's voice from behind her. "Serena! Serena!" Wait, that voice sounds familiar.
  • She then looked back and saw a handsome man scurrying her way. As he got closer, Selena's memory slowly began to surface in her mind. Wait a second! Isn't he the same guy I met when I was in a car racing competition a year ago? His name was also Rowan Gregory.
  • In fact, Selena was the champion of that tournament, but Rowan wasn't convinced of the result and requested a rematch, only to be defeated once again. Since then, Rowan had nothing but respect for Selena as he would sometimes text her to invite her for a race. What a small world, man! I can't believe he is now the face of the trendiest fashion label!
  • While Selena was still caught in her train of thoughts, Rowan came running her way and wrapped his arms around her, exclaiming excitedly, "Gosh! I can't believe it's you, Serena! I thought I saw someone else for a second."
  • At the same time, everyone else was stunned by Rowan's response, for he had never treated anyone so enthusiastically due to his usual cold and haughty attitude. Soon, they began to speculate the possibility that Selena was Rowan's girlfriend, but none of them dared to take pictures of the duo's interaction since they were in the company.
  • The next moment, Selena pushed Rowan away in an annoyed manner, only to hear the man going on and on endlessly. "Serena, what brings you to Astonville? Are you here to visit me?"
  • "No." Selena shook her head and nodded the next second. "Well, yes. I've come here for you. Are you busy at the moment? If you're not, please come with me."
  • Since Selena was Rowan's idol, he would never turn down an invitation from her, so he left with her at once.
  • Selena curled her lips upward and replied, "Nope, I'm currently working at the Hayden Group, and I'm here to close a deal with you."
  • "Wait, what? The Hayden Group? Why are you working there, Serena? Are you in desperate need of money? I…"
  • As Rowan went on babbling non-stop, Selena's patience grew thinner and thinner until she interrupted him, saying, "Just shut up. Are you in or not?"
  • "Alright, I'll agree to work with the Hayden Group—anything for you, Serena!"
  • While Rowan wanted to go on and on about his history with the Hayden Group, Selena cut him short and shushed him until they arrived at their destination. At that moment, Dimitri was inspecting the design department, where he met Leah and asked, "How are things going with our potential spokesperson?"
  • Out of so many male celebrities, Rowan stood out because of how compatible his reputation was to the Hayden Group's brand image.
  • Upon hearing that question, Leah hesitated for a second and answered, "Rowan is a difficult man to please. Initially, Denise was tasked with the responsibility to close the deal with him, but Serena insisted on taking the matter to her hands. I think she must have probably screwed up the whole thing…"
  • When everyone else heard Denise's words, they began to draw many different wild speculations about Selena's intention behind her decision to take on the job. Deep down, they all criticized her desperation for credit, thinking she should have done her homework before meeting the spokesperson. Is she courageous? Or is she just foolish?
