- I sat in the back of Nathaniel’s black Escalade, my fingers clenched around the handle of my purse like it was some kind of shield. The closer we got to the building, the heavier my chest felt. Anxiety pulsed in low waves through my spine, like my body was trying to warn me that walking through those glass doors would never feel the same again.
