- I stood at the foot of the bed for a second longer than necessary, just watching her. Jenna was curled on her side, one hand tucked beneath her cheek, lips slightly parted. The soft rise and fall of her breath was steady now, thank God. After the way she'd cried into my chest last night, clutching at me like I was the only anchor keeping her from drowning, I hadn't expected to sleep much. But somehow, I did.
