Chapter 7 Wolfsbane

  • "I smell wolfsbane and blood all over you," he said across the mind link.
  • "I realize I'm sorry, Beta."
  • "Just keep your distance. Declan will not hesitate to murder you if he discovers you are a Hybrid, he said.
  • "Why are we meeting?" I ask.
  • "We no longer require his assistance. This is just a casual gathering to thank the Alpha for his assistance. So don't worry, but don't come back over since we 're leaving shortly," he said.
  • Moving to the kitchen, I asked Chris if he needed any assistance and began cutting up fruit and vegetables for him.
  • Jenna came out to the kitchen after about twenty minutes and asked me to clean up several tables on my way out. Before reaching inside my pocket, I grabbed a glass and filled it with water. I put two of the pain relievers in my mouth and swallowed them fast with a mouthful of water.
  • I walked right into Alpha Declan when I turned around.
  • "You can't possibly be back here, sir," I mumbled hesitantly. He looked down at me, making me feel insignificant in comparison to his tall, powerful physique, before drawing me to his chest. He wrapped his arm around my waist , causing the strain on my ribs to cause me to wince in pain. He reached into my back pocket with his other hand and pulled out a small sheet of pain tablets, only two of which remained. He then let me go without reading the small packet.
  • "Codeine. "Why are you taking these?" he inquires, raising an eyebrow.
  • I hurriedly snatched them from his grasp and stuffed them back into my pocket before speaking.
  • "That is none of your concern. Now, please don't come back here," I grumbled. He turned and walked back out, returning to one of the booths. My hammering heart began to slow as I watched him walk away. Jenna walked out with a glass of water in her hand, which she placed on the counter in front of me.
  • "Drink this here. Are you certain you're okay? It's fine if you need the day off, Melissa. "I can handle Chris on my own," she murmured, resting her palm on my neck . She massaged her fingers worriedly over the bruise on my jaw, and I noticed she was crying.
  • "I'm really fine, Jenna."I'm simply weary," I explained.
  • I drank the glass of water to quench my thirst before stepping out with a tray to clear the tables.
  • Alpha Declan had been watching me all day. Isn't he supposed to be working? What is he doing in the diner? Is he aware of who I am? Is he hoping I'll leave so he can slaughter me? My mind was racing, trying to figure out why he was suddenly interested in me. When it was time to fetch Abby, I hurriedly removed my apron and walked out the door, towards the school.
  • A set of hands clamped down on my arms as I was out of sight of the diner.
  • The sparks that ran all through my body told me it was Alpha Declan right away. He pressed me up against the building's brick wall, pressing his chest into mine. He leaned in, inhaling my smell. My heart was thumping so loudly that I could feel it. I froze, expecting him to kill me. But he didn't; instead, he placed his fingers beneath my blouse, where my dressing was. He rubbed his nose down the top of my shoulder before lowering my blouse to see the bleeding dressing. He ran his fingers over it, giving out a frightening roar that rendered me immobile. "Who was responsible for this?" His voice was deep and ominous.
  • "No one," I faltered, my voice barely above a whisper. I tried to move to get away, but he hissed at me, so I just stood there, not daring to move an inch. He inhaled deeply, running his nose to the crook of my neck. His canines protruded and pressed against my flesh. They were astute. I took a deep breath, not realizing I had been holding it.
  • "How come you smell like wolfsbane?" Is this the reason you're not healing?" His voice was uncomfortably low. I attempted to push him back, terrified, but he wouldn't budge.
  • "Please, I have to get Abby," I beg. He took a step back and let me pass. I dashed out in the direction of the school.
  • We returned to the diner after I picked up Abby, where Declan was standing next to the door. Declan moved directly into my path, preventing us from proceeding farther inside the diner.
  • "Hello, Abby," he says as he hands her a massive chocolate chip cookie. Abby accepted the cookie while smiling up at the Alpha.
  • "You can assist with my homework if you like, Mr. Declan," Abby said excitedly, but before he could respond, Jenna came up, wrapped Abby in an embrace , and forced the Alpha to get out of the way. Abby went to her normal booth, and I pushed by the Alpha on my way into the kitchen to put on my apron.
  • Declan never returned. When my shift was about to end, I went out the back to get my bag and Abby, who was sleeping in Jenna's little studio at the rear of the store.
  • I felt familiar fingertips brush my sides as I bent down to take our clothing from the dryer and place them in the duffle bag. Declan's enticing aroma reached my nostrils just as he touched me, and I knew it was him. Sparks arced across my body . Why does he have such an impact on me? I spun around, only to have him force me back so my a$$ was crushed against the washing and dryer. I noticed him lean in, inhaling my aroma.
  • His other hand reached up and pulled my hair back, forcing me to look up and meet his stare. Just as I was ready to warn him that he couldn't return to this section of the diner.
  • He smacked his hungrily into mine, fully stunning me, but the most startling aspect was my own body's reaction to him. My core tightened as an involuntary moan from my lips. His tongue touched my lower lip, requesting access, which I provided before he deepened the kiss and pressed his body into mine. I heard him giggle to himself as he pulled away from me, "Now that's the reaction I've been looking for."
  • I was going to ask him what he meant, perplexed when Jenna strolled in. As I stepped out of the wash, my face flushed with embarrassment. Grabbing Abby, I hastily gathered our belongings and dashed out the door, without even bothering to say goodbye . I walked home as quickly as I could, and after an hour of traveling, I arrived at my driveway.
