Chapter 3 Melissa

  • Melissa's POV
  • I've had an odd feeling for the last week and a half that I'm being watched. Would Alpha Logan send someone to keep an eye on me? I'm curious about what he has in mind. I know the Rogue attacks were getting out of hand and that he had to seek assistance from the Blood Moon Pack's Alpha. They've been to the frontiers. I've met a handful of them in the last week. Their auras are quite powerful. I thought our Pack was sinister, but theirs is on another level totally. They even make me want to flee, which is saying a lot considering, as a Hybrid, not even Alpha Logan can make me surrender.
  • I only do it because I know I can't beat him. It makes me ponder how much stronger I would be if I had human blood than my Pack. I know the only reason Hybrids are being pursued is because we would be the dominant species , yet there are so few of us that we wouldn't stand a chance against a werewolf Pack. As a result, I'll have to stay hidden and do what Logan says because if he leaks what I'm up to, I' ll be hunted down like the rest of the Hybrids who have entered the city.
  • I also know that if I drink blood, they'll understand I'm not simply a wolf, and I don't want to be attacked by my own Pack . I was lost in my thoughts and didn't realize someone had entered the diner until they grabbed my elbow as I walked by to clean some tables.
  • I gazed at the customer while putting my palm over my heart and jumped back.
  • "I'm sorry, I didn't notice you. "You almost gave me a heart attack," I admitted uncomfortably. The restaurant was very quiet today. The man simply stared at me; he was incredibly attractive. He wore his shoulder -length hair in a ponytail at the back of his neck.
  • He was slim and athletic, with green eyes and tanned skin. He was dressed in a grey suit and appeared to have just left an important meeting.
  • "That's OK, Hun; I was hoping to acquire some menus."
  • "Sure," I said, returning to the counter to retrieve one. I handed it to him and waited for him to place his order. The way he conducted himself told me he was a werewolf, and his scent was a dead giveaway. I 'm curious about his Pack.
  • "For the time being, I'll just buy two coffees black, no sugar, please," he gently stated.
  • I dashed to the kitchen and started the coffee maker. I looked over at him, which was a mistake because he was staring at me and observing what I was doing. Chris approached me from behind, "Order?" he inquired.
  • I turned to face him, shaking my head.
  • "He hasn't ordered yet; I guess he's waiting for someone," I explained as I grabbed two mugs and the jug and returned to the seat where he was sitting. Before pouring the scorching hot coffee into the mugs, I set them down . He stopped me as I was about to go, gripping my elbow once again. I lowered my gaze to his.
  • "Can you tell me your name?" he inquired.
  • "A... Melissa, ” I stumbled. He was starting to make me feel uneasy. I returned my gaze to the kitchen, where Chris stood guard in case this weirdo turned on me.
  • "It's a pleasure to meet you, Melissa." "My name is Marley," he introduced himself, smiling. He had beautiful white teeth that were completely straight. I could feel my cheeks getting hot as I looked down at his hand, which was still holding my elbow. I stepped back swiftly to get out of his way, only to turn and walk straight into what felt like a brick wall. But it wasn't him; it was someone else. When I stepped into him, I could feel his abs through his shirt because he was around 6.5 feet tall and had short dark hair.
  • When his aroma reached me, I looked up to apologize.
  • He smelled great, with an earthy aroma reminiscent of rosewood and sandalwood. I leaned in and breathed without realizing it until I heard someone nervously clear their throat. My eyes fluttered open, and I took a fast step back, apologizing before returning to the kitchen .
  • I tried to calm my racing heart by taking slow breaths in the kitchen. "What's the matter with me?" I asked myself, not realizing I was saying it aloud.
  • "There is nothing wrong with you. I'd be hyperventilating if I had to go serve them two hotties. Chris came up behind me and remarked, "Damn girl, they're fine."
  • Straightening my apron, I followed him back to the kitchen, taking peeks at where they sat in the rear of the café. I hoped Jenna would return from her doctor's visit before I had to serve them.
  • They waved me over after a few moments. I approached over gingerly, staying a few feet away so I wouldn't be distracted by his delicious aroma.
  • "Can I get you something?" I inquired, not looking at either of them.
  • " To which Pack do you belong? "I can tell you're a wolf, but you smell different than any other wolf," the new mystery person inquired.
  • Instead of responding, I simply asked the same question again. "Can I get you something?" sounding bored.
  • Before reaching forward and taking my hand, the man grinned. Sparks raced through my hand and arm as soon as he touched me, creating a tingling sensation. I swiftly drew my hand back, as if it had been scorched. I took a step back and glanced at him. His eyes had become completely black, including the sclerae. It only lasted a few seconds before reverting to its original silver-grey hue. He grinned at me, and I couldn't take my attention away, fully captivated by his gaze.
  • "My name is Declan, and I'm the Alpha of The Blood Moon Pack." "To whose Pack do you belong?" he said, using his Alpha voice.
  • Fear seized me as my heart rate increased. His Pack was assisting our Pack, and he had a scarier reputation than Alpha Logan. He was known for being nasty and merciless to anybody who opposed him. Alpha Declan was also known to have wiped out entire Packs when they couldn't agree on territory conflicts, but he was also an Alpha that no other Alpha could stand up to. He led the most populous Pack, with over 500 Pack members, 95 percent of whom were Pack warriors. Their Pack has gone unbeaten, and if other Packs tried to stand up to them, it would be a slaughter. He is also responsible for the annihilation of all Hybrids.
  • He made me want to flee or surrender, which no Alpha has ever done to me.
  • "Melissa, you need to go fetch Abby," Chris said from behind the bar, diverting me and protecting me from yielding and responding to him. I turned to face him, glad, thanking the Moon Goddess for my escape. I hurriedly took off my apron and tossed it at Chris, not daring to look back as I dashed out the door to pick up Abby from school.
