Chapter 5 Raise Your Head, Look at Me

  • Mu Zhi did not raise her head to look at Lu Junnian. Instead, she put all her strength into pulling her hand out of his grip.
  • There were so many people walking by, she did not want to become the center of attention.
  • Bu Lu Junnian’s grip on her was too strong. She could not pull herself out of it. The number of people surrounding them seemed to be increasing. Lu Junnian reacted quickly. With his free hand, he dragged Mu Zhi into his embrace and pulled her into an on-call room next to the elevator.
  • The Associate Dean who was accompanying Lu Junnian hurried in and chased out all the hospital personnel who were resting there. He locked the door and left Lu Junnian and Mu Zhi alone in the room.
  • “Raise your head, look at me!”
  • Lu Junnian ordered Mu Zhi. His voice filled with rage.
  • Mu Zhi’s hand gripped tightly onto the edge of her shirt. It was an involuntary reaction whenever she got nervous. When Mu Zhi did not respond, Lu Junnian gripped her chin and forced her face up to look at him.
  • Mu Zhi stared at Lu Junnian. This man… This face… How many sleepless nights did she waste on this face? She loved him. She hated him. After all that, she thought that she had slowly forgotten him thanks to Lu Jinye. She had finally let go of him.
  • But… She now realized that she was wrong.
  • She tugged her face away from him, composed herself before sarcastically yelling out, “Dr. Lu.”
  • Lu Junnian laughed and looked at her. He persisted, “Why didn’t you wait for me?”
  • Mu Zhi found that hilarious. She lifted her face and looked at Lu Junnian seriously, “Who was it that did not wait? Who left to the United States first?”
  • “Why didn’t you come that day?”
  • Junnian asked again. He was filled with anger. His eyes were filled with fire.
  • Mu Zhi struggled to calm herself.
  • Why didn’t she come? She wanted to… But she didn’t know where he was.
  • Why did she not wait for him?
  • He was the one who left.
  • Back then, she wanted so much to be with him. She loved him so much…
  • But now, it was too late. What was the point of bringing all that up? She did not want to even bring up what Lu Junnian’s mother had told her everything in the pouring rain. And how she had been blacklisted from medical world. She did not want to say anything.
  • There was no point. Even if she did tell him, who was going to repay her for the bright future she could have had in the medical world? Who was going to give her back the hope she once had? Who was going to return her innocence?
  • “There was no point in me coming.”
  • Mu Zhi looked at her watch, “It is now 7:50pm. There’s still ten minutes before your lecture. You should go get ready.”
  • She turned to leave.
  • When she opened the door, Lu Junnian called out from behind her, “When I was in the United States, I specialized in cranial nerve recovery. Do you know why I chose this direction?”
  • Mu Zhi hand remained on the doorknob.
  • This was Mu Zhi’s intended branch. If she had specialized in this, she could have helped her mother.
  • “Dr. Lu, you’ll have a bright future going in this direction. Your research seems to be going quite well. In the future, you will definitely be a big help to many patients.”
  • Mu Zhi finished what she had to say. She left without even turning back.
  • Damn.
  • Mu Zhi only found out it was raining when she left the building. She hated the rain. She hated that rainy night.
  • She wanted to find somewhere to vent but she did not know where to go.
  • In the end, she could only call a cab and head back to Lu Jinye’s villa.
  • As to her expectations, when she got home, Lu Jinye had not reached home yet.
