Chapter 14 The Kiss Fell

  • Lu Jinye looked at Mu Zhi, who was in front of him. Although the expression on her face was calm, as it was when she was at work, as always, her eyes betrayed her.
  • Her heart remained a little flustered. Lu Jinye did not know what caused this reaction, but her agitation made him feel tinglish too.
  • He approached Mu Zhi, pulled her towards his side, and said, “Don’t worry, I’m here.”
  • Then, he looked up at the time and said, “Okay, let’s go downstairs, I’ll be your pillar of support.”
  • Mu Zhi nodded. She couldn’t bring herself to act cute and call Lu Jinye honey anymore. Although Lu Jinye had held her hand, she could feel sweat oozing out of her palms.
  • When they got downstairs, everyone had begun to sit around the dining table.
  • When Lu Leiming saw Mu Zhi and Lu Jinye, he stretched his hand out to introduce Xu Changshu and Lu Junnian, “Changshu, I’ve just finished introducing you the other members of my family. This is my younger brother, Lu Jinye. Next to him is his wife, my sister-in-law, called…”
  • Obviously, Lu Leiming had forgotten Mu Zhi’s name.
  • Lu Jinye continued, “Mu Zhi.”
  • “Oh, yes, yes, Mu Zhi… Mu Zhi.”
  • Mu Zhi raised her head, looked at Xu Changshu, and nodded, pretending not to recognize her. Although she tried to act natural, she couldn’t look into Lu Junnian’s eyes.
  • “This is your new sister-in-law, Xu Changshu, and this is my son, Lu Junnian.”
  • Lu Leiming spoke with a smug on his face.
  • Lu Jinye only nodded at the both of them, then took his seat at the dining table and started eating.
  • Because of the presence of Master Lu, the dinner was extraordinarily quiet and solemn.
  • However, Lu Jinye’s actions were out of the blue today. He took special care of Mu Zhi. In the past, it was always Mu Zhi who peeled shrimps and helped him to the dishes. Today, he was particularly attentive towards her, doing all that he usually never did.
  • Until the dinner was over, Master Lu went straight upstairs to rest.
  • Mu Zhi hurriedly found an opportunity to go out and get some air. She headed straight into the yard.
  • Nevertheless, when she stood in the yard, a woman’s voice came from behind, “Mu Zhi, I’ve vastly underestimated you. You actually managed to find a way to marry into the Lu Family.”
  • Mu Zhi turned around and watched Xu Changshu smiling as she approached her. She replied acrimoniously, “Well, thanks to Madam Xu for this opportunity. If you hadn’t separated Junnian and I, or driven me out of the medical world, I would have never met Jinye.”
  • “Hmph.”
  • Xu Changshu snorted coldly, and glanced at Mu Zhi in disdain, “As expected, you are just a woman who wants to rely on a man for success. You approached Junnian in the past with evil intentions as well.”
  • Mu Zhi didn’t feel annoyed. Instead she looked at Xu Changshu earnestly and answered, “If I married Lu Jinye to get to a higher position, then how about Madam Xu marrying Lu Leiming? Aren’t you having the same thoughts?”
  • This sentence completely backfired and enraged Xu Changshu. She lifted her hand in the air with the intention to slap Mu Zhi.
  • But Mu Zhi grabbed Xu Changshu’s hand and lugged it away, “Although you are my sister-in-law now, Madam Xu, but I entered Lu Family earlier than you. Please be aware and restrain yourself.”
  • After having said that, Mu Zhi raised her eyes and spotted Lu Jinye at a small pavilion in the distance. He was leaning on the pillar and looking at her with interest.
  • She hurriedly put on a smile, and walked in the direction of Lu Jinye, falling into his arms.
  • “Honey, when did you come? Did you hear everything I said?”
  • “If you didn’t want me to know, I can pretend not to know.”
  • Lu Jinye’s eyes were full of patience and affection.
  • “It doesn’t matter!” Mu Zhi said with a smile, “Do we have anything else on, darling? Can we go home yet?”
  • She did not want to delay any longer, in case Lu Junnian had gone into the yard too.
  • “I’ll go in and get the key, wait for me, I will take you home.”
  • Lu Jinye smiled while he spoke to Mu Zhi. He then turned around and entered the room.
  • Mu Zhi was waiting for Lu Jinye at the pavilion. Xu Changshu had already entered the room, angry because she found out that Lu Jinye had witnessed everything.
  • The soothing breeze made Mu Zhi’s tight nerves slightly relaxed.
  • However, a man suddenly dragged her into his arms.
  • Before she could react, a kiss fell on her.
