Chapter 10 What Yvonne Really Looks Like

  • Mr. Statham said with a stern face, “I must ask you to leave first, Mr. Page! Young Master Henry needs some rest!”
  • Hearing that Mr. Statham wanted to chase him away, Benjamin grew even more displeased. He said, “How dare a lowly servant tell his master what to do? This is disrespectful!”
  • Seeing that they were about to start a fight, Yvonne whispered in Benjamin’s ear, “Stop it, Dad.”
  • Benjamin was very displeased with Mr. Statham. How dare a lowly butler put on airs like this? However, recalling the poison that he had given Yvonne just now, Benjamin felt somewhat guilty; he didn’t dare to kick up a fuss anymore.
  • Therefore, he said while putting on a magnanimous attitude, “I’ll let you off this time for the sake of my daughter.”
  • With that, he turned to look at Yvonne and said, “You must discipline these disrespectful servants well, or else they are going to bully you… I’ll be going back now, and I’ll visit you again sometime later.”
  • Benjamin left hastily after he finished his sentence, leaving only Yvonne and Henry in the room.
  • Walking to the side of the bed, Yvonne took out the poison Benjamin had given her and took a sniff at it.
  • This poison had been extracted and purified in the form of powder. It smelled very nice, but things that smelled nice were often dangerous.
  • Leaning against the side of the bed, Yvonne asked with a note of puzzlement in her soft voice, “You’re already in such a state; why would somebody still want you dead in advance?”
  • Henry’s food had been drugged last time; now, Benjamin came all the way and asked Yvonne to poison him.
  • Even though these poisons wouldn’t cause instant death, Henry would die after taking a certain amount of it.
  • Thinking about the recent series of events, Yvonne went through a roller coaster ride of emotions before her mood hit rock bottom again.
  • Sitting on the side of the bed with deep loneliness in her eyes, she mumbled to herself bitterly, “Back when I was in the orphanage, I always envied friends who reunited with their families. At last, my biological father came for me this year. I thought I was going to have a family at long last and no longer be alone, but I didn’t know that it was all just wishful thinking.”
  • She then continued, “His company is on the verge of bankruptcy, so he begged me to marry into the Kingston Family as the wife of a dying person. I thought that he was probably forced to do so despite himself; I believed that he still had some affection for this daughter of his. However, I’ve been given a slap in the face. He made me marry a dying person previously, and now he wants me to kill someone…”
  • Therefore…
  • Benjamin wasn’t sincere in resuming his father-and-daughter relationship with her right from the start.
  • He had his motives for finding her; in his eyes, she was but a tool for him to seek profit, and she was still the person who could be abandoned at his disposal.
  • Since Yvonne was in a bad mood, she sat up until night arrived; she didn’t even notice when Mr. Statham came in to serve Henry dinner.
  • Mr. Statham didn’t care about Yvonne either. To him, whatever she liked to do was none of his business.
  • However, the sight of her wearing a black facial mask in the middle of the night was really terrifying! Luckily, the Young Master had his eyes closed the entire time, or else he would be frightened as well!
  • It wasn’t until late at night that Yvonne finally got up.
  • Her gaze fell upon a cabinet on one side of the room which had several bottles of red wine in there. Walking toward the cabinet, Yvonne took out a bottle of red wine, uncorked it effortlessly, and gulped down several glasses in one go.
  • Without realizing how much time had passed and how much wine she had drunk, she walked back drunkenly to the side of the bed and poked Henry a few times.
  • She said, “I wanted to live together with you for a month or two and leave when you die to thank him for bringing me into this world, but now, it seems that I have to find a way to leave ahead of time. Don’t blame me for this since I have helped you to ward off two attempts on your life. From now on, whether you’re lucky or not will be up to you.”
  • Having finished her speech in a soft voice, Yvonne fell drunkenly on top of Henry.
  • With that, the black facial mask that had been on her face the entire time came off at last, slowly revealing a charming, pretty face with flawless and delicate features. Under the moonlight and the starry sky, she looked dazzlingly beautiful and mesmerizing like an angel who had fallen from the sky.
  • That night, Yvonne had a nightmare again. Somebody forcibly dragged her into his arms while she was in a daze before turning around and throwing himself on top of her.
  • She tried hard to catch a clear glimpse of the person’s face, and the latter seemed to be the ravening wolf she had dreamed of last time.
