Chapter 7 You’ve Been Targeted

  • Yvonne didn’t go back upstairs right after eating breakfast. Instead, she took a walk downstairs to familiarize herself with the surroundings here.
  • By the time she returned upstairs, she saw Mr. Statham in the room.
  • At that moment, another male caregiver was giving Henry a massage. Yvonne approached them and was about to ask several questions about Henry’s condition when her cell phone suddenly rang.
  • Under Mr. Statham’s disapproving gaze, Yvonne quickly took her cell phone and went out of the room to answer it.
  • As soon as she answered the phone, she heard a young man sobbing in an ear-splitting voice as he said, “Yvonne, I shouldn’t disturb you while you’re on vacation to deal with your own stuff, but the Professor has been rushed to the emergency room—he collapsed from overworking!”
  • Yvonne was stunned.
  • The man on the other end of the phone choked with sobs as he continued tearfully, “The research institute is in complete chaos right now. To make matters worse, the investors will be hearing our progress on the thrombin drug project in five days. If we stand them up, our reputation will be damaged, and nobody will dare to invest in our project in the future! All things considered, our institute is doomed! It’ll be game over for us!”
  • Yvonne gave him a few words of comfort before hanging up in resignation.
  • As expected, going on vacation was just wishful thinking; she’d better resign herself to being a worker.
  • She had to have her belongings in place before getting to work, but her baggage was still at the Page Residence.
  • Having no other alternative, Yvonne could only call Benjamin again.
  • Benjamin answered the phone, but before Yvonne could even speak, he said in anguish, “Yvonne, I know that you’ve suffered. It’s my fault for letting you down and being useless…”
  • Yvonne listened obediently to Benjamin’s elaborate speech without interrupting him. She then said softly, “I’m doing fine at the Kingston Residence; my baggage hadn’t been sent over previously, so could you please send them to me?”
  • Benjamin was startled for a moment before he immediately answered, “Sure, I’ll arrange for it to be sent over right away!”
  • With that, he hung up before Yvonne could say anything else.
  • Yvonne went back to the room while holding her cell phone.
  • At this moment, the caregiver had completed his daily task of massaging Henry and was about to leave.
  • Noticing that Yvonne had entered the room, Mr. Statham stared at her with an obvious look of warning in his eyes.
  • Yvonne immediately promised, “I’ll never touch your Young Master.”
  • Mr. Statham replied, “All’s well as long as you know what’s proper and what’s not.”
  • After Mr. Statham left the room, Yvonne heaved a sigh of relief and walked to the side of the bed. Then, she stretched out her hand and poked Henry’s face, pretending to be fierce as she said with a snort, “Look—I’m touching you! Hmph! What can he do about it?”
  • After poking his face several times, Yvonne remembered about the thrombin drug project and another headache followed suit.
  • Since she had to get everything done within five days, she would be very busy.
  • After Yvonne’s baggage arrived that afternoon, the servants moved her suitcase into her room.
  • Yvonne’s suitcase didn’t contain many clothes; its main contents were a laptop and a box that was neither large nor small.
  • She took out her laptop and sat at the desk.
  • She had just turned on her laptop and opened a document in a file when the screen suddenly flashed violently. The document she had opened was gone, and a bloody picture appeared on the screen instead.
  • In the picture was a sentence savagely written in blood. It read, ‘You’ve been targeted!’
  • Yvonne’s heart skipped a beat instantly. She subconsciously wanted to shut down her laptop, but within the next second, the picture on the screen shattered into pieces and disappeared in a flash.
  • With that, the document she had opened earlier reappeared on the screen.
  • If it wasn’t for her heart that was beating wildly, Yvonne would have suspected that what she had seen just now was an illusion.
  • She beat her chest and said in a soft and sweet voice full of displeasure, “How could this person hack into my laptop? How unethical!”
