Chapter 3 Revenge, You're the First!

  • Looking up at the towering skyscraper before him, Roman was momentarily lost in a daze, his eyes brimming with tears.
  • Once, this building, called Ethan Tower, was named after his father, and it housed the company Ethan & Co., which used to belong to the Liddell Family. Now, this tower has been renamed Christopher Tower, and the company has been changed to Christopher & Co.
  • He had thought, with his family annihilated and parents brutally murdered, his father's sworn brother, Christopher Swan, didn't help retrieved his parents' dead bodies; he even seized the Liddell Family's properties to please the "ringleader" of Elysium, the one who ordered the massacre."Dad, Mom, as you watch from above, I will reclaim everything our family lost and even more!" Roman clenched his fist as he vowed silently.
  • With a bag containing eight urns slung over his shoulder, he entered Christopher Tower.
  • "What's your business here?" Two security guards rushed over, angrily confronting Roman. They clearly mistook him for a vagrant or beggar.
  • "I want to see Christopher Swan," Roman said plainly.
  • "Christopher?" The guards hesitated for a moment, then exclaimed in surprise, "You want to see Mr. Swan? A filthy beggar like you wants to see the chairman?! Get lost!"
  • "I have no quarrel with you. Please step aside. I just want to see Christopher," Roman said politely to the guards.
  • "F*ck off, you son of a b*tch! You think trash like you can just meet someone of Mr. Swan's status?" one of the guards cursed.
  • "How dare you insult my mother?" Roman's eyes narrowed, locking onto the offending guard.
  • "So what if I d—"
  • Bam!
  • Before the guard could finish his words, he was sent flying, crashing heavily on the ground several yards away, lying there in a pathetic heap, blood oozing from his mouth. The other guard stood dumbfounded.
  • "Will you try to stop me too?" Roman's gaze turned icy as he looked at the other guard, who shook his head frantically in response. His face was filled with horror as he hastily retreated several steps.
  • With an aloof demeanor, Roman headed straight into the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor, the eighteenth floor.
  • Inside the chairman's office, a burly, somewhat fierce-looking middle-aged man was staring at the uniformed young woman in front of him lecherously.
  • The young woman, tall and voluptuous, her pencil skirt hugging her pert buttocks, her long legs wrapped in sheer flesh-colored stockings, looked poised, beautiful, and captivating.
  • "Sir, this is the plan I've made for this quarter. Based on my analysis of the market and competitors, I believe…"
  • The young woman earnestly reported to the middle-aged man, but he just shook his head, a lewd grin on his lips. "Celeste, put work aside and come closer."
  • Celeste Ivory frowned and reluctantly inched closer to the man. Much to her dismay, he suddenly tugged at her arm and sat her on his lap.
  • "Sir, please don't do this!" Celeste was startled and pushed the man away, enraging him instantly. He slapped Celeste across the face, leaving a bright red handprint on her cheek. Celeste stood there, feeling aggrieved, tears welling up in her eyes.
  • "You f*cking sl*t! Don't you know the rule? When there's work, the secretary works; when there's none, the secretary gets worked over! Now, come to me, or I'll rip your head off!"
  • The man's menacing gaze terrified Celeste. She knew a thing or two about him. The man had risen to prominence in the past three years, worth billions, dominating Riverport. Anybody who was anybody knew his nickname—Madcap Chris. So how could she, a mere secretary, resist him?
  • Christopher stood up and was about to force Celeste onto the desk when the office door was pushed open with a bang.
  • "Who the hell dares to interrupt?!" Christopher roared angrily, startled.
  • "Mr. Christopher, it's been quite a while…" Roman walked in carrying a woven bag, looking at the scene before him with a smirk.
  • At the sudden sound, Christopher trembled violently and looked at Roman in astonishment. "You're that… that remn—"
  • "Ten points, Mr. Christopher! I'm the remnant you all like calling so much." Roman's eyes revealed a hint of self-mockery.
  • Christopher pushed Celeste away and sneered, "Roman, your parents are dead. You've lost protection. You shouldn't have come back. If the one from Elysium finds out you're still alive, do you think he'll spare you?"
  • The one from Elysium…
  • At the mention of the man, Roman's eyes instantly flashed with boundless animosity. His body also trembled slightly, filled with anger and hatred!
  • That "one" from Elysium orchestrated his family's annihilation. The other accomplices called him the "ringleader."
  • The "ringleader" wielded immense power and formidable strength. Even now, Roman still couldn't figure out how his family had offended that guy, so much so that it would lead to their demise.
  • Four years ago, on a dark and stormy night by a river at Cloudcrest Pavilion, that person killed Roman's father with one palm strike, then strangled his mother to death with one hand. After that, he uttered, "No Liddell shall be spared," and left.
  • "Heh, kid, scared now, aren't you? Considering I used to be your father's sworn brother, I'll pretend to have never seen you. So, get lost!" Christopher said with a hint of compassion.
  • "Mr. Christopher, do you know why I've returned?" Roman asked, holding back his boiling rage.
  • "Why?" Christopher asked nonchalantly.
  • "For revenge! Nine of you, none will escape." Roman bruised his lip, his words punctuated.
  • "Revenge? Hahaha!" Christopher laughed, almost doubling over. "Kid, even your parents died easily in his hands. Do you think you, in your current state, can avenge them? Ha! What a joke!"
  • "I know you look down on me. I used to be the pampered son of the Liddell Family, a gentle guy who never fought for anything. Even if someone hit me, I just laughed it off. Everyone treated me like trash; they could boss me around and insult me.
  • "Even my parents' marriage wasn't accepted by society; they said I was a bastard born out of wedlock! Even you, after my parents died, went to please that ringleader, taking advantage of my youth, seizing everything from the Liddell Family! But that was the old me. Now, I've changed."
  • "Changed? Even if you've changed, you're still just a remnant, a beggar, a vagabond. What can you change? What can you do?" Christopher sneered, then pulled out a wad of cash, throwing it at Roman. "Kid, considering the little friendship between me and your father, take the money and get lost!"
  • However, Roman remained unmoved, his gaze locked onto Christopher, saying, "Mr. Christopher, I've said it before, and I will say it again. I said I want revenge, and none will escape, including you. Of course, you're the first!"
  • "You want revenge on me? And how will you do that?" Christopher looked at Roman, still sneering.
  • "An eye for an eye; blood… for blood," Roman replied with a deadpan tone, then pulled out an urn from his woven bag, placing it on the table.
  • Seeing the urn, Christopher widened his eyes in shock! What is this kid up to?!
