Chapter 13 He's My Husband, Who Are You to Insult Him?!

  • At that moment, a rather cocky figure swaggered over. Dressed to impress, deliberately showing off his Rolex watch on his wrist, it was none other than Brody.
  • As the pompous scion approached, he addressed Giselle, "I've told you before, haven't I, Giselle? My uncle is the vice president of Christopher & Co. A pretty big deal, if I do say so myself. He can give your family some orders, like a piece of cake! I just ask that you consider being my girlfriend. Say yes, and I'll get my uncle right away. He'll notify Miss Ivory to approve your family's orders."
  • As he spoke, Brody had an air of arrogance, making it seem like Christopher & Co. was his family's business.
  • After finishing his words, he glanced disdainfully at Roman and said, "You said you'd take Giselle to Miss Ivory, huh, loser? Do you have any idea who Miss Ivory is?
  • "Christopher Swan and Preston Lyon died tragically, and the two conglomerates merged, transforming Miss Ivory into the joint CEO of these two giants. Do you know what this signifies?"
  • "What does it signify?" Roman, playing along, replied.
  • "It signifies that there's a major figure behind the scenes who propelled Miss Ivory to this immensely prestigious position! In other words, even though Miss Ivory is incredibly prestigious, she's just a proxy for that big shot. But even so, she's still incredibly formidable and prestigious. After all, not just anyone can be the proxy for such a big shot. Do you think I'm right, Giselle?" Brody asked, his eyes riveting on Giselle, whose gaze turned even more complex.
  • She hadn't expected Celeste, who used to be on par with her, or perhaps slightly inferior, to become so powerful. To become a proxy for a super-influential figure and control two major conglomerates. And herself…
  • A complex and self-deprecating emotion immediately spread through her heart. Now, in order to see Celeste, she even had to make an appointment. Thinking about it, she felt like a complete failure.
  • Listening to Brody's analysis, Roman quirked a brow. He hadn't expected the trust-fund kid to be capable of such analysis.
  • In actuality, Brody's analysis wasn't his own; he had overheard his father and some business tycoons discussing it. Now, he was just showing off.
  • However, what made Roman secretly smirk was that the super big shot Brody was talking about was actually right in front of him.
  • "Dumbfounded, aren't you, loser? All these things I've said are some profound insights from the business world. With your useless, beggar-like self, you probably can't even understand it. You might as well go beg on the street!" Brody glanced at Roman with an air of superiority and contempt before returning to Giselle. "Giselle, why don't I take you to see my uncle now? I guarantee you'll secure a 10-million—no, 50-million deal today! As for whether you want to be my girlfriend, we can discuss that later."
  • Roman made no responses at that moment, wanting to see how Giselle would choose.
  • Giselle's expression became complicated.
  • Now, she faced pressure from her family, and everyone from her family was waiting to see her make a fool of herself. Additionally, if she were to go alone to see Celeste, the psychological pressure on her would be too much. Now, with Brody offering to help, it stirred something in her heart.
  • "Giselle, I know you and Miss Ivory go way back. You two were known as the Gorgeous Duo back in high school, both being the school's beauties. If you go to her, she will definitely look down on you and won't give you any orders! Also, your family is waiting to see you make a fool of yourself. If you just come with me to see my uncle, we can avoid Miss Ivory altogether, and you can hold your head up high in the family. So, why are you hesitating?"
  • Despite being a trust-fund kid, Brody had a precise grasp of people's mentality. To win Giselle over, he carefully studied her social circle and family situation, learning her psychological weaknesses. Now, he played to her vulnerabilities, believing Giselle wouldn't be able to resist.
  • Brody looked at Giselle, confident of his victory. But Giselle quietly glanced at Roman, who was also looking at her.
  • Giselle's eyes flickered, and she said, "Brody, thank you for the kind offer. But since this is a task given to me by my family, I want to challenge myself to complete it."
  • Brody was taken aback. He hadn't expected the young woman to reject his offer.
  • Roman, on the other hand, chuckled, glad to know that he was right in believing his wife wouldn't accept Brody's help. She was worth his forever love and protection.
  • "Giselle, do you really want to endure waiting in line and seeing your condescending former classmate? Moreover, even if you see Miss Ivory, will she give you orders? She might not even deign to look at you! If you don't have orders, you'll never hold your head up high in your family!" Brody finally resorted to provocation against Giselle, who became livid at his words. However, they were all true, leaving her unable to retort.
  • "That's enough! Stop blabbering. My wife has already refused your help. You can leave! As for the orders, I'll take care of them for my wife. You don't need to worry about it," Roman snapped at Brody.
  • "You? You're just a useless waste of space! What can you, a f*cking live-in son-in-law and a jinx with dead parents, do to help Giselle?!"
  • While Brody was polite to Giselle, he was vulgar to Roman, and Roman's eyes instantly turned sub-zero upon hearing Brody curse his parents. He wanted to give the pompous scion a piece of his mind, but Giselle beat him to it, reprimanding, "Don't cross the line, Brody. I'm grateful that you want to help, but why must you curse Roman? What has he done to you? He's an orphan, and yes, he's not as rich as you, but he's still human. He still has his pride! Furthermore, he's my husband. Who are you to insult him? Now, leave!"
  • Brody was stupefied, and so was Roman, standing rooted to the spot as his eyes misted over. He hadn't expected Giselle to defend him like that.
  • Feeling greatly humiliated, Brody looked at Giselle icily and said, "I can't believe you would stick up for a loser like him! I really feel sorry for you! In case you haven't realized it, Giselle, your misfortune and troubles are all because of this jinx!"
  • "Enough. Leave!" Giselle said angrily.
  • "Fine. I'll leave!" Brody growled, then bore into Roman. "Just you wait, loser. Giselle is only being stubborn now, but I'll wake her up. And you are nothing but a piece of sh*t!"
  • As Brody turned to leave, a chilling voice traveled to his ears. "You're quite audacious, kid! Stop right there!"
  • Brody's body stiffened slightly in response.
