Chapter 9 You Must Die!
- Standing on the sidelines, Preston witnessed everything before him and was stunned. He couldn't believe Roman was not only associated with the local powerhouse, Oscar, but also managed to make Cornelius kneel in submission. At that moment, he realized his demise had arrived. He never imagined that the remnant of the Liddell Family had grown to this extent.
- Thud!
- Preston knelt before Roman. "I'm sorry, Mr. Liddell! I've realized my wrongdoings! I deserve to be d*mned! Please spare my wretched life!"
- Seeing Preston kneel, Roman's eyes were filled with mockery. "You were there when my parents were brutally murdered, Lyon. May I ask if you uttered a word for them, interceded?"
- "I…" Preston fell silent. He had been present during the Cloudcrest Pavilion massacre, not only failing to intercede for Roman's parents but also beating their corpses afterward.
- "So, you must die!" Roman gritted his teeth, enunciating each word.
- "Even if you kill me, the one in Elysium won't spare you! Do you think you can do as you please just because you have some martial prowess and a connection with Ybarra? The powerhouse in Elysium holds immense power and strength, even greater than Ybarra. If you dare to come back, you'll die with nothing left of you to bury!" Preston gnashed his teeth, his tone venomous.
- "Huh, he won't spare me? Do you think I'll spare him? His power and strength are irrelevant to me. I, Roman Liddell, will personally bring him to his demise! But you, you'll go first!" As Roman's words fell, a chill gleam shot out. Then, a blood hole appeared in Preston Lyon's throat, blood gushing out incessantly.
- Preston touched his throat, his face displaying incredulity. Then, with a thud, his body slowly fell to the ground.
- Just like that, another one of the city's top tycoons had fallen forever.
- "Cornelius, give him a hundred lashes for me!" Roman said to the elder.
- "Happy to oblige, sir!" Cornelius hastily replied, picking up the whip and viciously lashing Preston's corpse. Soon, bloody marks appeared on the dead tycoon's body, a terrifying sight to behold.
- Once, Preston had whipped Roman's parents like this. Now, the blood debt was being repaid. He got what he deserved.
- Looking at Preston's body, Roman's eyes flashed with a hint of relief, though he murmured softly to himself, "Mom, Dad, this despicable villain has been dealt with!"
- "Cornelius, I leave the aftermath to you. Can you handle it?" Roman then turned to Cornelius.
- "I can!" Cornelius replied eagerly.
- "Good." Roman nodded, then made a phone call. "Celeste, from this moment on, Evergrain Enterprises merges into Christopher & Co. as a subsidiary. Get ready to take over?"
- "Yes, sir…" came Celeste's voice from the other end of the phone, filled with shock.
- At that, Roman hung up the phone, and Cornelius asked, "Mr. Liddell, what about Preston's son? Should we kill him?"
- "No need, let him spend the rest of his life in a mental hospital," Roman replied plainly.
- "Understood," Cornelius quickly nodded in agreement.
- Roman nodded slightly, then turned and walked away.
- "Farewell, Mr. Liddell," Cornelius bowed to Roman's departing figure, then shifted his gaze to Dominic, his eyes flashing with a hint of malice.
- …
- Early the next morning, explosive news spread throughout Riverport following the sudden death of Christopher.
- Preston Lyon, Chairman of Evergrain Enterprises, had passed away due to a cerebral thrombosis at his riverside villa at 9 p.m. last night. Furthermore, his son, Dominic, inexplicably became a mental patient and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Even more astonishingly, Evergrain Enterprises was merged into Christopher & Co., becoming a subsidiary of the latter.
- The entire business community of Riverport was abuzz with discussions about the sudden deaths of Christopher and Preston, along with the merger of Evergrain Enterprises into Christopher & Co., hinted at a hint of conspiracy. However, the specifics remained unknown to them.
- The news naturally shocked the Chaplin Family as well. At 10 a.m., the Chaplins gathered in the family council chamber.
- Florence, the family matriarch, sat solemnly at the head of the room while Giselle sat silently in the corner in a captivating long dress.
- "Oh, Giselle, you really have a troubled fate! It was already sad enough that you were married to the city's biggest loser, but you hadn't even married into the family Grandma arranged for you when your father-in-law died suddenly, and your fiance became a lunatic! You seriously have the worst fate!" Before Florence could utter a word, Sienna Chaplin, the daughter of Giselle's second uncle, began to mock and taunt her.
- Sienna wore a short skirt and heavy makeup, her appearance somewhat passable. However, compared to Giselle, she was miles behind. Giselle was not only beautiful, known as the most beautiful woman in Riverport, but also capable of doing business, making her the object of Sienna's jealousy. Sienna always tried to trip Giselle up and mock her whenever she could.
- In fact, when Giselle married Roman, Sienna was quite pleased, gloating even. So what if you're beautiful? So what if you're capable? You still married a worthless loser in the end!
- Later, when Roman disappeared, Florence arranged for Giselle to marry Dominic, who was young, wealthy, and decent-looking. Naturally, Sienna became quite jealous. Now, with the sudden death of Dominic's father and Dominic becoming mentally ill, the tables had turned, much to Sienna's delight. Giselle would have no chance to marry into the Lyon Family now and would be left behind. Therefore, in front of their family, Sienna openly ridiculed Giselle.
- Sitting in the corner, Giselle listened to her cousin's mockery and attack silently. To be honest, the disaster that had befallen the Lyons also shocked her, and she couldn't help recalling the urn Roman had given Dominic the day before, as well as what he said about telling Preston to prepare to die.
- Could Roman be involved? she wondered but ultimately dismissed the unrealistic idea.
- Sure, he had become more assertive this return, confronting Gunther and Dominic. However, for him to commit murder seemed rather ridiculous. Moreover, the news already stated that Preston died due to a cerebral thrombosis, so it naturally had nothing to do with Roman.
- Stop overthinking. Roman is just… No, that's impossible. Giselle shook her head.
